Whilst families will be watching the latest Disney disaster of a movie in Tron: Ares this halloween there is something that' just been released for us grown ups to enjoy this halloween. With that being the movie that i'm going to be talking to you all about today as this is a movie that really does need to be seen to believed but not with your parents or grandparents tho and so then join me as I review the film that will make every single member of the male audience watching it wince in pain with it's first kill with the film in question being called simply just "Bone Lake" enjoy.
The plot of this film is a young couple find themselves in the fight for their lives when they go to cabin in the woods for a romantic breaks together and find themselves forced to share it with another couple who have deadly plans for them. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot alot more better then what it really had any right to be as by all rights this is a film that really shouldn't have had that good of a plot in it in the first place as it's not the kind of film that truly demands a great plot and yet it's for that exact reason that the films plot oddly works as the story is one that's so fresh and new that you really don't know what's coming next and therefor you can't predict how the film is going to end with this being something that alot of modern horror film and films in general don't do as they rely to much on what people know will work instead of giving them something that they didn't know would work and that's where the strength lies in this films plot as you never really know what's coming up next and the film does lean into that and because of that the plot of the film does come across as being unpredictable and shocking both at the exact same time and while yes granted this is a plot that really could have been alot more better then what it is as the set up of people going to a cabin in the woods is one that's played out with the film even not really focusing on it's main plot all that much but when it does it is something that makes the film worth watching with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Rings , Siren and The Cut star Alex Roe as Will and We Summon The Darkness , Malignant and I Saw The Light star Maddie Hasson as Sage. Also starring in this film is Tidelands , High Seas , Invisible City and Gen V star Marco Pigossi as Diego and The Tape Man , Cats Dancing On Jupiter and Bat Teacher star Andra Nechita as Cin , Clayton Spencer as Brett and Botch star Eliane Reis as Lisa.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Which is something that was really shocking as all of this films actors are a bunch of really unknown actors and therefor to expect a good performance from any of them would have been unwise and yet that's exactly what they all give us with it being clear as day that alot of them do have bright careers in acting and heck Maddie Hasson is kind of an upcoming star in the world of horror with her starring in several horror films already and it's not that hard to see why as she really is a good actor and is really good in this film as well with the film not having one but four actors who could all lay claim to that with them being the four main characters of the film Maddie Hasson , Alex Roe , Marco Pigossi and Andrea Nechita are all so good in this film with the film really hanging on all of their performances as it's really just those four actors for the overall vast majority of this film and my god do they all kill it in this film so much so that it would be hard to picture anybody else playing there respective characters as that's just how good that all four of them are in this film with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Character wise the film isn't that good as there is nothing to the characters of Cin and Will but there might be a reason for that. With that reason being something that WON'T be discussed in this review as you really do have to see this film as it's just so good but with the characters and Sage and Diego tho they are a little bit better but not by much as those characters are ones that are learning to trust each other and that is something that does come alot during the course of the film and does play into the film in a major way but outside of that there's really nothing to either character as both of those characters do come across as being really one dimensional as characters but in saying that tho that might be the point of those characters as we the audience are meant to find out more about them as the film goes on but the issue is tho is that the film doesn't give us any information about them as the film does go on and infact it's Cin and Will that end up becoming the more well rounded characters and even that's more due to what happens in the films third act and because of that it makes you want to watch the film over again to pick on any hints that you might have missed the first time around with those characters where as with Diego and Sage the makers of the film didn't really bother to give them anything that makes them standout as a characters with them instead feeling more like characters that you'd find in the first draft of a script rather then ones that you'd want to see survive a horror film and yet even with that in mind Sage and Diego do still come across as being a couple that whilst they do have there flaws do still deeply care for and love each other as well.
This film gives us something that we haven't had in a while and thanks to mainstream hollywood being more focused on remakes and sequels rather then original ideas it's something that we're not likely to be getting anytime soon and that's something new. As everything about this film from it's characters to it's plotline is just that new as it's all more then likely something that we haven't really seen before now and because of that the film does come across as being alot more better as a result of it as all of those new elements are blended together so well with what works and what came before it that it does end up creating something that we haven't had in a good long while and that's a true experience as thanks to those elements being at play here you don't watch this film you experience it and to those thar claim that hollywood is out of ideas I say go and watch something from one of the smaller studios as then your going to find something that you haven't seen before now with that being something that these little known horror films are being very good at giving us and they are things that prove that creativity isn't dead it's just getting alot more harder to find and while granted this film does have some old and tired elements in it like the twist with Cin and Will being something that granted your not going to see coming but is something that has been done in other horror films before now with the same thing also being true for the whole cabin in the woods type setting but it's how this film uses those ideas and those settings that makes them feel new all other again and while the idea of having a cabin in the woods was done alot more better in the first two Evil Dead films here it is something that is used to show of just how perverse that Cin and Will could get at times with there twist being something that does show you just how they are when we reach this films third act.
At the start of this review I said that this is a film that you really shouldn't watch with either your parents or your grandparents. With that being because of the fact that there are alot of scenes that you wouldn't expect to see in this kind of film with there being quite alot of nudity of both the male and female kind however it's something that's there to keep your interest as rather it's there to build up tension and to add to the story of the film as that's what this film is very good at doing adding to it's plot and building up tension and to be fair to this film it is something that could be seen as being affective however tho even given the fact that is film is rated R it really didn't need to have any kind of nudity in it in order to achieve that as even if you look at Halloween that film was great at building tension just by having the fact that Michael Myers be anywhere in any scene at given time during the film even having him seemingly appear out of nowhere and not paying of any of that tension until the films third act where as here even tho the vast majority of this film is set during the day time there still could have been someway to build up tension between the couple's and what also let's us know that Will and Cin aren't exactly good people without having to show nudity at every chance that they got and while the film does make sure that the nudity that we see in the film does add to the story and isn't just there for the sake of being there it was getting to the point where it got me wondering just what kind of film that this was meant to be and if this film should go up on "certain adult websites" luckily tho the film doesn't push things that far but it pushes them far enough that people might to feel uncomfortable watching the film which might be the point of the film and if so then the makers of this film did a very good job with that point but it is something that could have been toned down just a tad bit.
Where the film does somewhat fail is in two other aspects that being the fact that even tho it's meant to have some comedy in it alot of the films jokes don't really land all that hard and do come across as being forced with them just being there to break the tension when the film should have been alot more focused on keeping the tension as it is. With the other thing being the fact that this film is meant to be a horror mystery film and yet there's next to no mystery to solve in this film with even the big twist with Will and Cin coming out of nowhere as nothing before with those two characters had suggested that that twist was going to be possible as the film doesn't even give us any clues outright as to what there really up to however tho in saying that the twist reveal as predictable as it was does have the add on effect of making you want to rewatch the film again to make sure that there weren't any hidden clues in the film much like how people go back and rewatch the first Scream movie just to spot the clues which if so does make the makers of this film seem a lot more smarter then what the final film would make them out to be but if not then it makes you wonder why they bothered to make this film a mystery type of film in the first place if there not going to have any clues as to let us the audience know that Diego and Sage are in deep trouble as that is something that is something that would have added to the tension of the film and not take away from it and if the makers of this film wanted to have jokes in this film then at least make the jokes funny as there's nothing that's all that funny about this film apart from picturing how other male audience members will react after seeing the first kill and that's really it as otherwise it would have been quite pointless to have jokes in this film in the first place.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty one minuets and ten seconds. Which is a longer running time then what you'd expect a film like this one to have but in saying that tho this film really did need that amount of running time in order to fully tell it's plot with the film having more then enough plot there to really cover that amount of running time in the first place but in saying that tho this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as while the film does it's running time more wisely then what Tron: Ares does this film plot does still feel like it's rather underdeveloped with it feeling like that the films plot can't be that well developed due to the fact that the makers of the film seemed to disinterested in it's own plot but what little plot development we do get does work really well and does help to make the films plot even more better then what it already is in the first place however tho the same thing absolutely cannot be said for the films characters as apart from Will and Cin the film doesn't really give it's characters any kind of character development whatsoever with us knowing as much about Diego and Sage coming out of the film then we did going into the film with this being something that really does effect on if we really like the characters or not as the film doesn't really give us a reason to really care about them outside of the fact that there the good guys and that's really it however tho this is something that could have very easily have been fixed just by giving the film a slightly longer running time as that would then allow for scenes that do develop those two characters but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is a horror film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As while there shockingly isn't that many kills to be had in this film the ones that are in the film are really effective and work really well for the story that was being told with all of the films kills having some really impressive gore to them something which does go to show you that the makers of this film knew to have some really impressive kills in it as that is partly how you keep the horror fans interested in the film in the first place and while it would be very tempting to say that the films entire third act is the best kill of the film as we do get to see some really good kills take place during that truly epic third act with one of them having alot of gore on top of that as well the fact is the one that made me wince the most isn't the films third act rather it's in the films first act with the best kill of them film being one that won't be described here as it's one that really does need to be seen to be believed as it's a kill that really will make men wince as you get to see everything in that kill with the film being made up of really good and gory kills with the film being worth watching just for it's kills alone as there all really just that good with the makers of the film putting alot of effort into making the films kills just as good as they really could have been something which does pay off really well in their own right in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall if you have the choice between watching Tron: Ares and watching this film choose this film as it's very easily the better the of the two films and don't watch any trailers for the film either as this is a film where knowing very little about the film will make the film more better to watch in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from Tenor , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this film being Google Images simply because Google Images actually has images from this film really are up and on Google Images and plus pretty much much all of the images that I personally found on Google Images were all really very fairly high quality and as well as being as really very fairly high definition as well and so then horror fans we end this review as we always do with really our one and true goddess Elvira wishing us all some really very unpleasant dreams.
