I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 Film SPOILER FILLED Film Review

Legacy sequels or requels are now vastly becoming more and more popular in the world of horror as while it could be argued that Halloween 2018 started this trend it's actually something that started either in the eighties or the early nineties with films from the A Nightmare On Elm Street series. However it wasn't until Halloween 2018 or even Scream 2022 that they started to become more and more popular with the film that i'm going to be reviewing for you all today being the latest to get the legacy sequel treatment which is fitting as the original film is basically a clone of the first Scream film and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the film that ignores the third film in this series with the film in question being called simply just "I Know What You Did Last Summer" enjoy.

The plot of this film is one year after they accidentally cause a car to fall off of a cliff a group of friends find themselves being stalked by someone who knows there dirty little secret. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that'd actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as it is just the typical plot that you'd expect from this series with there not really being anything new added to it and while that appease people who perhaps haven't seen the original film those that did see it and love it will find the plot of this film to be repetitive like it's hitting all of the same notes of the first film and while appealing to newer fans is great as this is a franchise that isn't that well known in the first place the makers of this film had to know that alot of the people who are going to see this film are the people that have seen the original film hundreds of times and therefor throwing in something new to the plot will keep them invested and also have them wondering what's going to happen next where as the people that didn't see the original film will like this films plot as is and while the plot of this film isn't that well drawn out to the films credit it doesn't really need to be as it just needs to give you the basic premise and that's really it and that's all we get from this film from a plot perspective with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Madelyn Cline as Danica Richards , Chase Sui Wonders as Ava Brucks and Jonah Hauer-King as Milo Griffin. Also starring in this film is Tyriq Withers as Teddy Spencer , Sarah Pidgeon as Stevie Ward , Billy Campbell as Grant Spencer , Gabbriette Bechtel as Tyler Trevino , Scooby-Doo and Star Wars Rebels star Freddie Prinze Jr. as Ray Bronson and Jennifer Love Hewitt as Julie James.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As alot of this films actors do indeed turn in some really good performances in this film which is both shocking and yet at the same time not all that surprising as apart from the two returning actors the biggest named star in this movie is Jonah Hauer-King and even then he's not that big of a named star as his only real big role with as The Prince in Disney live action remake of The Little Mermaid with the rest of this films actors being at best very little known actors and therefor it would have been completely foolish to expect some really good performances from any of this films more lesser known actors and yet that's exactly what we get from them as they all manage to turn in some passable performances that are alot more better then what you'd expect them to be with the best two actors in this whole entire film being both Jennifer Love Hewitt as Julie James and Freddie Prinze Jr. as Ray Bronson with them both managing to slip right back into character almost as if they just got through playing them the first time around with it being clear as day that both actors even have some really great chemistry together that makes it easier to buy them as life long best friends as well with the acting that's in this film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad as it gives none of this films actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does help to lower the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Spin VFX , Stage 23 and Foy. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as for a horror fil this film does have some pretty impressive looking CGI in it with one of which being a huge spoiler and the other really note worthy effect being the fact that we see over the cliff near the start of the film which is something that the makers of the film pretty much would have to have done as your not going to have alot of your main actors near something where they could fall down and die for real and therefor doing it as an effect was pretty much the only way that you could do it and while the spoiler effect is a good idea it's also one that was done alot more better in Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl as without going into spoilers about the effect itself is it is one that does look a little bit cartoonish for the more grounded and realistic tone that this film was quite clearly going with the film even having some CGI blood in it which never looks good in any film and it doesn't look good but those two bad effects don't bring down the overall quality of the films effects as while yes granted alot of this films CGI could have looked alot more better then what it already does given the fact that this film had a modest budget of eighteen million American dollars this film wouldn't have had a huge effects budget and therefor this films effects where never going to look that great in the first place.

SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you thought that Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt where the only two actors from previous films to reprise their roles then you'd be mistaken as we also get Sarah Michelle Gellar as Helen Shivers and Brandy Norwood as Karla Wilson. With Brady appearing in this films post credits scene and Sarah Michella Gellar appearing in a dream sequence near the end of the film to be frank whilst it was nice seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar and Brandy pop up in this film there appearances really didn't add anything to the film as Brandy's scenes is basically there to tease a sequel and Sarah's scene is just there for the sake of being there with her scene feeling like the makers of this film where trying to copy why Scream 2022 and Scream VI did with Skeet Ulrich's scenes only they don't go all the way as in those Scream movies they at least make the main character of that movie be related to him thus giving them a familial connection where as here Helen just appears in this one dream scene to this random girl and does nothing in it as she doesn't give her any kind of advice on how to defeat this killer or anything she just appears says a few random things and then turns into a skeleton at the end of it and that's it which does feel like a waste of the character and of the actress who most likely only agreed to the role because her husband is also coming back in it as well as you could cut her cameo out from the film and you'd miss nothing that's actually important to the plot of the film where as with the Brandy cameo it at least happens after the movie is finished and is just meant to be something fun and that's really it and that's all both of these cameos should have been a fun tip of the hat to the past whilst also guiding the franchise forward for new audiences and older audiences alike as well.

Look to be frank this film does something that is going to make alot of long time fans of this franchise pretty angry and that's the fact that they make Ray someone who was the good guy in the first two movies one of the killers in this movie. As yes this film has two killers with the films other killer being new character Stevie Ward with her motive being that the person that the group accidentally killed at the start of the film being someone who was a friend of hers in rehab and since in her eyes they took everything away from her she wanted to get revenge on them by killing them all and with Ray his motive is that the town is moving on from the events of the first film and he feels that that shouldn't do that with only Stevie's motives being the only one that makes sense as she was out for revenge for loosing someone that she cared about and was even willing to let Ava live as she originally wanted to go to the police with it being made clear as day that this film is nothing more then a Scream 2022 clone which makes sense as this whole franchise is nothing more then a Scream clone but even so Scream 2022 at least did something that's actually shocking with the Dewey character by having him be killed off by ne of the films killers as having a legacy character who has survive not one but two attacks by this killer then turn out to be one of the killers in this film only screams that the makers of this film didn't care about the franchise and this is coming from someone who isn't a fan of this franchise and has only bits and pieces if all three films and nothing of the TV show yet it should be pretty obvious that you treat your legacy characters with respect as those are the characters that people are coming to see and not the newer characters and by having one of them turn out to be the killer not only doesn't make sense for that character but it's also something that could quite possibly make alot of the fans of the franchise angry indeed.

While the characters of Ray and Julie do feel like there old selves the same thing cannot be said for alot of this films more newer characters. With alot of them being just very bland and one note characters with almost all of them having next to nothing inters of a personality with the only two characters that are somewhat memorable are Stevie and Ava and that's really it and while it is understandable that you want to make both the villain and heroine of the film memorable characters you also have to make the supporting characters memorable as well as that makes the main characters all the more better because of it and yet it's something that the makers of this film don't do as there more banking on this film being hit due to it's name rather then actually being that good of a film yet if the makers of this film bothered to make characters like Danica or Milo memorable characters then it would make the film come across as being all the more better because of it as even with both Stevie and Ava there's nothing that's all that memorable about this films characters out side of the fact that one of them as one of the villains and the other is one of the films final girls and that's really it and while yes slasher film don't typically give alot of there characters anything memorable that was only a trope in the eighties and when we got to the nineties alot of slasher films did make an effort to make there supporting characters just as memorable as the main characters with the best of example of this again being the original Scream where main character Sidney Prescott had a memorable group of friends where they were all memorable characters even tho two of them turned out to be the main villains of that film and it's something that makes you wonder why the makers of this film didn't bother to make the newer characters memorable as even tho they already have a plan for the sequel they absolutely need to create memorable characters that really can carry the franchise forward should Jennifer Love Hewitt decide not to come back for another sequel.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and forty two minuets and forty eight seconds. Which to be fair is a perfectly solid running time for a film to have with this film even having more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time however with all of that said tho this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as while the plot is as strong as it's ever going to be given it's set up and premise it's not one that's that well developed as the plot especially in the beginning does feel like that it's fast forward alot of the time with us the audience not really getting the chance to get to know these characters before they accidentally kill someone and then it just feels like things are happening for random reasons rather then the plot demanding that they happen like for example there's no need for them to go and seek out Julie and Ray in this movie and yet because the plot needs those characters in the story that's exactly what happens even tho the events of the film would play out the exact same way if those characters didn't appear in the film with this even effecting the films characters as all of this films characters including it's returning characters aren't that well developed as the makers of this film quite clearly didn't put alot of time and focus into making sure that they got the development that they needed due to the fact that the plot of the film for that those opening few minuets is moving so fast that we don't get alot of time to get to know the new characters and then after that there's no scenes where the characters just sit and talk and therefor they don't get the chance to be that well developed as characters and while with the returning characters you obviously have the first movies for there development so you don't really need to develop hem as characters all that much the same thing cannot be said for the films new characters but I really will admit that this film really does have some really bad pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a slasher that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With this films kills being the most entertaining aspect of the film even tho there is quite alot of CGI blood featured all throughout this film most notably in the scene where Sarah Michelle Gellars character appears it doesn't stop the fact that alot of this films kills as simple as they are are also the most entertaining aspect of the film with it being hard to say what the best kill of the film even is as all of them are really simple kills that aren't that creative and yet despite this film still does manage to have some really fun kills in it but if I were pushed i'd say that the best kill in the film is quite easily the death of Teddy as we see him get slashed by The Fisherman not far from his home but it doesn't stop there as he does try to make it back home to his parents but with alot of the steps that he takes The Fisherman stabs him with him only being a few centimeters away from home before The Fisherman drags him away and it's only then that his dad notices that something's wrong and goes outside to check on him before then getting killed off himself which is something that does make that kill the best kill in the whole entire film with alot of the films kills being some really good kills as well in there own right it's just that that one had also more going for it then it does against it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

SPOILERS END HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overall while this film is currently making alot of money at the box office that doesn't make it a good film and while all of the films in this franchise have got low scores on IMDb this film just feels heartless and soulless as it has iconography there but it doesn't understand what it was that made all of those elements work so well in the first place in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official I Know What You Did Last Summer fandom wiki page , Tenor , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this film being the official I Know What You Did Last Summer fandom wiki page simply because the official I Know What You Did Last Summer fandom wiki page actually has images from this film really are up and on the official I Know What You Did Last Summer fandom wiki page and plus pretty much much all of the images that I personally found on the official I Know What You Did Last Sumer fandom wiki page were all really very fairly high quality and as well as being as really very fairly high definition as well and so then horror fans we end this review as we always do with really our one and true goddess Elvira wishing us all some really very unpleasant dreams.
