The Bride! Film Review

For some odd reason we seem to be getting more and more adaptations of Frankenstein then what we did get in the last few years. Yet even with the character being this iconic character the other iconic character The Bride has only appeared in one movie and even then didn't get any lines of dialog and only appeared in the final five minuets of the film in which she is the title character well now there is new film out featuring the character and not only is she once again the main character of the film she actually speaks this time around and so then join me as I review the film that is better of dead with the film in question being called simply just "The Bride!" enjoy. 

The plot of this film is when she brought back to life a young woman goes travelling America with someone named Frank trying to regain her lost memories whilst also slowly falling in love with Frank himself. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with this films plot being pretty thin at best but to be fair the plot to the 1935 original The Bride Of Frankenstein was also pretty thin as well but at the same time tho you could at ;east tell what the plot of that film was meant to be alot of the time whereas here in this film it does get pretty hard to work out not only if the film has a plot but also what it is as the film spends so little time on it's plot and spends more time on having this films writer , director and producer Maggie Gyllenhaal shove her brother into more of the film then what he really should be in when it would have made more sense to spend alot of time on focusing on the films plot as when the film does do that that's when the film gets to be fun as it does have some cool ideas one of which isn't that subtle and will be getting talked about later on in this review but the other of which is the fact that The Bride randomly spurts out things that make her appear to be alot more smarter then what she is and that is a cool idea but the film does nothing with it heck it doesn't explain why she does that which is something that does leave that idea to feel really undercooked with the same thing also being true for the films plot as well as the film doesn't give it the focus that it deserves with the plot of this film not really being really rather entertaining and nor is it really rather engaging in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Jessie Buckley as Ida "The Bride" / Mary Shelley , Christian Bale as Frank and Peter Sarsgaard as Det. Jake Wiles. Also starring in this film is Annette Bening as Dr. Cornelia Euphronious , Jake Gyllenhaal as Ronnie Reed , Zlatko Burić as Lupino , John Magaro as Clyde , Matthew Maher as James , Jeannie Berlin as Greta , Louis Cancelmi as Officer Goodman , Julianne Hough as Iris / Jinx and Penélope Cruz as Myrna Malloy.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With alot of this films actors turning in some really good performances and while it might be to early to tell just what alot of the films critics thought about the films performances it is fairly easy to say that alot of them did work well for this films tone which does seem a mixture between Joker: Folie à Deux and the original The Bride Of Frankenstein and while that combination does sound interesting in theory in reality it does creature performances that do feel at odds with each other as while both Jessie and Christian  are good in this film there are times where she goes over the top with her performance whilst he is playing everything super straight with this no doubt being a result of that that this films writer , producer and director Maggie Gyllenhaal quite clearly has no idea of how to talk to her actors to get the kind of performances that would have helped this film be the best that it could have been with the best actor in this film being Jessie Buckley as Ida "The Bride" / Mary Shelley as while she does go to those over the top places alot of the time it's during those times that she does get to shine as an actor as we know fully well what it is that we're going to get with Christian Bale and he does give the exact kind of performance that you do expect from him but with Jessie Buckley someone who isn't that well known it means that we can only be surprised and in this case it is a surprise that does work well in the films favor with the acting in this film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad as it gives none of this films actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does harm the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film. 

Character wise there is really only one somewhat interesting character in this film with that being none other then The Bride herself. With the fact that she is the most interesting character in the film mainly being due to the fact that she's essentially a dead version of Harley Quinn with the only difference being The Bride tells what are considered dirty jokes by 1936 standards and that's it as there essentially the exact same character even Frank who it should be easy to make interesting as there are quite literally tens of films with him as the main character showing you how to make him a good character and yet here he does come cross as being a very one dimensional character with the only thing that stands out about him being the fact that he's a movie buff but only for the films of Ronnie Reed which is pretty much done just so the films writer , director and producer can shove her brother into as many scenes as is humanly possible as that aspect of his character doesn't affect who he is as a character as it's something that could very easily be removed from the film entirely and nothing that's important to the films plot would be lost where as if you changed The Bride from being this over the top and crazy person then the film on the whole does fundamentally change with it being made clear as day that the makers of this film put alot more effort into it's female characters then they did it's male characters as all of the films male characters are either dumb as a rock or don't have that much of a personality to begin with whereas all of the films female characters barring maybe one of them all have alot of personality when there really should have been just as much effort put into the films male characters as there was the films female characters.

This film does of course take it's inspiration from the 1935 classic The Bride Of Frankenstein with the film keeping to the tradition of having the actor who is playing The Bride also take on the role of Mary Shelley. Altho it was something that was done a lot less subtly in this film as unlike in the original film where you genuinely didn't know that the two characters where played by the same actor here in this film they outright say it which is pointless as the whole point of doing that was to make it look like that Mary Shelley was subtly putting herself into her own story and yet here in this film but out right saying that this is what there doing it makes what was a really interesting idea of having Mary quite literally take over the body of this woman before she becomes The Bride in the first place seem like it was done more of an afterthought and again looking back at the original film this was something that was always planned to be the case which does mean that the original film pulled of that idea alot more better as they did truly commit to it by not having an actor credited as playing The Bride at the end of the film much like how Boris Karloff wasn't credited as playing The Monster at the end of the first film as doing that allows you to buy into the film and into it's characters and having the film outright say that these two characters are being played by the same actor just doesn't work but to be fair tho the film does get credit for having The Bride interact with Mary at several points in the film and even having Mary open up the film by saying that this is the story that she meant to write but couldn't before her death was a somewhat solid idea and it's one that does get followed up on alot of times in the film itself but it's also something that should have been alot more better then what it actually was done.

Look you can say what you want about the marketing for Scream 7 not being the best out there but you at least knew that that film was coming out regardless of if you wanted to go and see it or not. You cannot however say the same thing for this film as there was only four posters released for the film and only about one maybe two trailers for the film and that's it and to make matters worse this film opened up not only a week after Scream 7 came out but also the exact same day as the newest Disney animated film came out so no one is going to see this film just due to what else is out there and the fact that Warner Bris Pictures who are usually really good at promoting films decided not to give this film alot of marketing this is something that you can see by the box office numbers for the film is going to hurt the film as despite the fact that the film had a pretty modest budget of somewhere between $80 to $90 million dollars the film thus far despite having some big named stars in it has only grossed one million dollars now fair enough the film hasn't been out for long yet and therefor the film could of course make back that big budget but when you have both Scream 7 and Hoppers taking up the top 2 spots and both of those films had a much more better marketing campaign then what this film had that is something that does make that a hard task to do with this film being one that it won't be surprising if it gets pulled from theaters within the next few weeks and dumped onto whatever HBO Max is going to get pulled when Paramount buys out Warner Brothers with this proving that Warners just didn't care about this film this being despite the fact that they bought the film off of Netflix which is quite frankly really would have been the better home for the film as they would have given the film more of a push marketing wise.

This film does of course focus on the relationship between The Bride and Frank with the makers of this film giving their relationship alot more screen time then anything else in the film. This is something that does make sense as even the original film was all about The Monster finding a girlfriend and therefor it does make sense that this film devote more screen time to there romance then what the original film did however tho this is something that does come at a cost as it makes both of the monsters in question feel alot less human as a result of it due to the fact that we don't get any scenes with either character confronting something that they want the most in the this world as instead both both characters spend alot of the films running time either running away from the cops are telling unfunny jokes as while this film is also billed as being a comedy the characters barely say or do anything that's actually funny with it being made painfully obvious that the makers of this film are alot more interested in giving the characters an underbaked romance then they are in making the film be this genuinely moving film as while the original film didn't spend that much time on its romance it did make the film more moving due to the fact that we got to see The Monster get shown genuine human kindness for the first time in his life with him even shedding a tear when he goes to sleep and yet here in this film despite the fact that there is more of an effort to give us a really good romance which is something that the film should get alot of praise for doing it also doesn't take the time to make that feel earned as there's no attempt to give the characters these moments where we do get to feel for them with this being something that does let the films romance down as if we audience can't buy into them as characters then why would we want to buy into there romance either.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and fifty six minuets and fifty three seconds. Which is such a long time for this film to have especially as there portions of the film where nothing happens to advance the overall plot of the film and therefor this is a film that very easily could have been one hour and thirty minuets with the film having the right amount of plot there to cover that running time but not its actual running time as the film does have alot of scenes that do feel like there filler scenes as we don't need to see the characters going to see various Ronnie Reed films as the only thing that that adds is the fact that we find out thats how Frank calms himself down which is something that is accomplished in one of those scenes and yet the film keeps on coming back to that idea when all it does is pad out the films running time with the film not being able to use its running time wisely because of this as now the film isn't able to fully develop what little plot it has due to the fact that it does keep on giving us scenes that add nothing to the overall plot of the film. With those scenes being things that would have been if they were cut out of the film entirely as that would then allow for the film to have scenes in that that both develop its plot and its characters as they are all left feeling underbaked due to the fact that we don't get to find out anything about these characters with the only exception really kind of being The Bride and even then what we find out about her doesn't effect her character so it might as well as not even be in the film at all and yet if the film did remove those pointless scenes then things like the characters and plot and the characters romance all of which are crucial to making this film work would be able to be alot more developed then what they are in the final cut of the film but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a horror film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty just OK at best. With the films kills not really being all that impressive which to be fair is something that you do expect from a Frankenstein movie with alot of this films kills involving someone being shot and there's only so many times that you can see that kill before it starts to get boring and there's not really anyway that you can do that type of a kill in really fun and creative ways but to be fair the film does mix it up once with that kill being the best kill of the film and due to how pretty good that this kill is it won't be spoiled here in this review as the kill is worth seeing not knowing how good it is with the kill in question only being good due to the fact that outside of one other kill alot more of this films kills just involve people getting shot which isn't that fun to see alot of the time with it feeling like that this film is so ashamed of being a horror film as it doesn't give us any of the things that we want to see in not only a good horror film but a good film in general and yet it's during that good kill that the film does actually start to feel like it could be a good film as we get to see just how unhinged that these two characters could be when there pushed to there limits and yet the film doesn't push them that far every again for no apparent reason with this being something that does stop the film from being as enjoyable as it could have been this being despite the fact there is some effort put into this films kills in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall if you want to see a really good version of The Bride character then go and watch The Bride Of Frankenstein as that film more holds up over over roughly ninety years later where as this film really feels like the kind of the film that could only be made in the 2020's which is something that really does date the film quite alot in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.

Bride Of Frankenstein Awakens Film Review

The in thing right now seems to be to remake Frankenstein as we have just had one made by Guillermo Del Toro. With us getting another one in just few short days made by Maggie Gyllenhaal therefor it only makes sense that there would be a very cheaply made British knock off film made as well and well I thought that i'd talk about it as the film does have a pretty cool title yet the films director and writer can't make a good movie between and so then join me as I review the film that technically has two titles with the film in question being called simply just "Bride Of Frankenstein Awakens" enjoy.

The plot of this film is one month as his new bride is killed in a hit an run incident a deranged former surgeon decides to try and rebuild her by her using the body parts of her family. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really bad with the plot of this film not really having that much to do with the plot of Bride Of Frankenstein outside of the fact that it involves a bride being brought back from the dead and that's really it as this films plot is so wafer thin that it was hard to tell just what the main plot of the film was meant to be a lot of the time as the makers of this film just seemed so happy to except the fact that there making a film with a weak plot that has nothing to do with the tale of Frankenstein however to be fair to this film this film does at least try to do something new and  different with it's plot by having spend a good chunk of the films opening act with the bride and her husband prior to her getting killed off with even who killed her actually being a plot point albeit one that's done really horribly due to the fact that they never let you know that it was meant to be something that you were meant to be working out in the first place and yet even that stuff just doesn't work when you take the rest of the film into account with the plot of this film also not really being really rather entertaining and as well as not really being really rather engaging either in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Also starring in this film is Sophie-Jo Beman as Mackenzie , Chris Black as Chet , Jamie Cowan as Ian , Graeme Muncer as Arthur , Lauren O'Hare as Candi , I Know What You Did Last Christmas star Julia Quayle as Beth , Dracula In Space star Charlotte Reidie as Victoria and Jodyanne Richardson as Carrie.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. Given the fact that this film is being written by Harry Boxley a man who was written so many bad movies that it's hard to keep count of and the fact that this film is being directed by Louisa Warren a woman who clearly doesn't know how to get a good performance out of her actors it's a wonder that this films acting was as passable as it is as all of this films actors are indeed trying to turn in a good performance but it's clear as day that they weren't given any actual direction and therefor turn in these really odd performances in the film with the best actor in the whole entire film being Nicola Ditter as Santana as at times it does feel like that she's only one that actually trying to get some form on emotion out of her character and while yes there are other actors in this film that do that as well with her it came across as being more natural whereas with everyone it felt like that they were trying to hard to get some kind of emotion out of them this is not to say that there bad actors as there not as they were all perfectly serviceable in this film however with Nicola it felt like that she was the only one who was trying to make us feel something literally anything for her character with that coming through in her final performance in this film with the acting that's in this film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad as it gives none of this films actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is somethin that really does help to harm the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

This film really isn't helped by the fact that it's characters are just so badly written as they feel like the kind of characters that you expect to find on the first draft of a film script and not the finished script. As all of the films characters not only have the personality of a blank of wood but also to be frank here really unlikeable characters in there right as the film goes threw different phases of choosing who it wants to be a likable character with it starting with Fran being the character that your meant to be routing who with the film showing Santana's parents as being unlikeable characters but then the film suddenly shifts and instead asks you to route for Santana's family and to hate Frank all of this is being done for no reason as the film doesn't give you a reason to care for any of it's characters as they are all just blank slates which fair enough was mostly done due to the fact that these types of films are usually written filmed , edited and released very quickly and therefor they might not have had time in the making of this film to fix that issue but on the flip side of this is the fat that this is something that should have been decided right when the film was first being pitched as then everyone involved would be able to get on the same page with it not being helped by the fact that none of the characters have anything about them that help to make them standout from each other as the film doesn't give us the time to get to know them as characters and while this is understandable for the films main characters the film also does it with it's main characters as well and while this film might have been made as way to cash in on the upcoming film The Bride that doesn't mean that the characters had to be these bland characters that people are going to forget about five minuets after the film ends.  

As was mentioned at the very start of this review not only does this film have very little to do with the film where it borrows part of title but the film can't even decide on what it's main title even is. As the poster quite clearly states that the film is called "Bride Of Frankenstein Awakens" yet when you press play on the film and the films title card comes up it says that it's called "Bride Of Frankenstein" heck even the films very own IMDB page goes with this title as well which is something that quite understandably make you think that this is going to be a remake of Bride Of Frankenstein yet the two films couldn't be further apart as outside of both films having a bride that's brought back from the dead by a mad doctor these two films might as well as be two completely different films with this film not even bothering to try and recapture the gothic tone that both the original film and book are known for with the film even giving the main character of Frank the worst middle name you could ever think of as his middle name is quite simply just en with his last name being Stein which is just so painfully bad and yet if you look at the original Bride Of Frankenstein that film is not only oozing with gothic tone and looks but also goes the extra mile in making Frankensteins Monster feel more human then the rest of the human characters as all he wants in that film is a friend and that's it where as here Santana who might as well take on the role of Frankensteins Monster as it's only she that gets brought back to life wants to kill people to help cure her hunger and that is not true to either the spirit of Frankensteins Monster or to The Bride herself.

Nobody goes into one of these films that are quite obviously cheaply and quickly made expecting the film to be good as we can tell right away that none of these types of films will be good. We do however expect them to have decent sound effects in them with that being something that this film doesn't have and while yes this is also a really bad thing it's also a good thing as it does make the film unintentionally hilarious as the characters are shooting of guns that don't even sound like there guns in the first place and while yes the makers of this film would have had a really small budget to work with and therefor wouldn't have been able to afford to get some decent gun sound effects they could however have gotten them for free somewhere online and just used those sound effects are better yet just record sound effects for the gun in a way that's both safe and that makes it sound like it's an actual gun being shot as instead we end up with gun sound effects that make it sound like the characters are playing are toys and are not firing what in the film are meant to be real guns and yet it doesn't stop there as the sound effects for when the characters are hitting each other just sound like there hitting a bag of meat and not hitting an actual person with this making it look like that the makers of this film just straight up didn't care about what kind of a film that they were turning in because of it they did then they would have gone that extra mile to record sound effects that actually sound like the thing that there being attached to and while yes granted the sound effects in this film aren't that big of an issue they are things that help to sell you on the rest of the film and if they don't sound as good as we all know that they should have done then it just takes you out of the film and reminds you that your just watching a film. 

For one reason or another the makers of this film decided to make this a mystery type of film as we have a mystery over who it is that actually ran Santana down on what is quite literally her wedding night. Whilst to be fair this isn't a bad idea as it does give the film a unique hook to it and is something that could have worked really well only the makers of this film forgot to do one one tiny thing and that's actually give us clues as to who the killer is or even focus on it's mystery in the first place therefor when Dr. Pret reveals that he was the one that ran Santana down because of the fact that he loved her and couldn't bare the thought of her being with quite literally anybody else but him it is something that does come out of nowhere as while the film did indeed set up the fact that he a relationship going with all of his female students and the fact that he and Santana were genuinely in love with each other it's never established or even hinted that that he was the type of person to get jealous let alone the type of person who would go to these extreme lengths just to get what he wants and in fact all throughout the film he comes across as being the only character that somewhat has it all together and yet of the film did put more of a focus on it's mystery then it would have given us the audience more of a reason to pay attention to the film as then we would be able to look for clues as to who Santana's killer even was in the first place and yet because of the fact that the makers of this film failed to do it makes it look like that the mystery aspect was more of an afterthought and was only added in to the film at the last minuet because of the fact that Scream 7 was coming out as it has very little to no impact on the rest of the film as a whole.

Now this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and twenty six minuets and forty eight seconds. Which to be fair to this film is pretty much the exact bogstandard running time that you'd expect a film like this one to have in the first place with the film having just about the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time and as was to expected from this kind of film this film doesn't really use its running time all that wisely due to the fact that due to the film having a shorter running time this film isn't able to fully develop it's plot as the film has so much setting up to do just before it even gets to the titular bride in her undead form and when that happens there's only about twenty minuets of the film left as the film goes threw every detail of how Frank and Dr. Pret get all of the parts that they need to bring her back and whilst this is something that is understandable it's also something that needed to be cut out as it adds nothing to the plot of the film and takes up screen time that could have been better used in giving us a more well developed plot heck it could be argued that that that extra running time would have been better used to also giving the characters some actual character development as that would have helped us the audience to decide on if we like the characters or not and would have helped to make them feel more three dimensional then what they ended up being as we don't get to find anything about any of the films characters which is something that makes it hard to like these characters and yet if the characters did have some character development then it would have shown that the makers of this film know how to create a good film but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho. 

So now then as this is a horror film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With the films kills being the best part of the film as even tho they are still badly done to the point where it is hilarious due to the fact that when Santana does try to kill someone even tho she's meant to be scratching them it looks like that she's just reaching out to touch them and isn't really doesn't any harm to them however it's during this films kills that we do get to see some decent looking gore effects with it being made painfully clear that the makers of this film spent alot of the films budget on the gore effects and nothing else in the film with there not really a kill that you could say is the best kill as there all just the same type of kill with nothing new added to them which is understandable as it's the undead bride doing alot of the films kills herself and she can't really do that much outside of biting people and eating them or just scratching them and then eating them to death and that's really it and while that might be fine for one or two kills it is something that does get boring after a while but to be fair both Frank and Dr. Pret do get some kills as they kill of Santana's family and use them for there body parts but even then we don't get to see that much of the kill in the first place and therefor what should have been a bunch of really impactful kills instead leaves us the audience feeling nothing but empty inside in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.  

Overall while it's of course far to early to tell on if this film is better or worse then The Bride what we can say for sure is that this film is still miles better then Dracula In Space as this film while it is still a really bad film it does have elements in it that make it bad in an entertaining kind of way in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked abut all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean tat this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 4.5 out of 10 from me.

Bride Of Frankenstein 1935 Film Review

 

Ladies and gentlemen the last time I reviewed a Frankenstein movie was two years ago and ever since then i've been dying to cover one of the sequels and so today i'm finally taking the plunge and taking a look at the first Frankenstein sequel. This is one that like alot of these much older horror films I haven't seen but im very much a where of certain things from the film and so join me as I review 1935's "Bride Of Frankenstein" enjoy.

The plot of the film is Frankenstein's monster is still alive and so is Henry Frankenstein and while Henry wants nothing to do with the monster he himself created an old friend by the name of Doctor Pretorius wants Henry to help him in a scheme one which involves giving the monster a bride. In my opinion the plot of this film isn't as good as the first film but it is still a very engaging plot and the story is very well handled in my opinion.

Starring in the film is Boris Karloff as The Monster , Colin Clive as Henry Frankenstein and Valerie Hobson as Elizabeth Frankenstein. Also starring in the film is Ernest Thesiger as Doctor Pretorius , Elsa Lanchester as Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley and The Monster's Bride , Gavin Gordon as Lord Byron , Douglas Walton as Percy Bysshe Shelley , Una O'Connor as Minnie and E. E. Clive as The Burgomaster.

In my opinion the acting in this film is honestly really good with all of the actors giving truly great performances. I honestly feel that it was hard for the actors to top the work that they did in the first film but they honestly come really close with this film and while the script does let the actors down a little bit since the actors aren't really given much to do for large portions of the film when they are given something to do however that's when you get to see some truly good acting or at least that's what I think anyways.

As you can all no doubt tell from the title this film features the only film appearance of The Monster's Bride. While this character would appear in some form or another over the years this is the only one in the original Universal Pictures line of monster films in which she appears and despite her name being in the title she only appears for less then a few minuets near the end of the film as such I find it remarkable that the character made as much of an impact as she did considering she's not in the film for that long.

To me this film is as much a tragedy as it is either a romance or a horror film because we see all throughout the film The Monster getting terrorised even when he's actually doing more good then other people in the film. This makes me think if the whole message behind the Frankenstein's monster character is "don't judge a book by it's cover" because we see people judging The Monster just by his appearance and yet we the audience see The Monster is actually a pretty friendly person who just wants to be liked by someone.

Adding to what I just said there's a really great sequence in this movie where The Monster meets a blind man and the two becomes friends.This to me is a great sequence because we get to see The Monster be truly happy and while of course it does come crashing down when some hunters that The Monster fought earlier recognise him that to me makes the sequence all the more heartbreaking because The Monster is never going to have what he truly wants which is a friend and nothing more.

I do like that they made The Monster speak actual words in this film since to me The Monster is a mentally disabled child. As such it makes alot of sense that the character would start to speak full sentences which oddly makes the film more heartbreaking considering almost everyone that the Monster runs into wants to see him dead and i'm shocked i've never seen the Frankenstein the way that i'm seeing him now because in hindsight it really does make sense.

I know that i've already talked about The Monster's Bride but I have to talk about her again just due to how engraved in pop culture she is. I would have liked it if this film appeared in the film more then what she does just because it would have been nice to see how she is with The Monster and this way we can get a glimpse of what her personality is like which would hopefully make us like her and plus it'd be interesting to see what the villagers would have thought of her would that have accepted her or would they treat her exactly how they treat The Monster there's a whole world of ideas that could have been done with this character and sadly the film does none of them.

For some reason this film opens up with a scene featuring Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley which as far as I can tell is only there just so the film can show flashbacks of the ending of the first Universal Pictures Frankenstein film. Since the characters in that opening aren't revisited at any point in the film and so I have to wonder why did the film makers bother to include that opening since it adds nothing to the film and is honestly quite pointless in my opinion.

This film is one hour and fourteen minuets and fifty four seconds long and so lets round that up to one hour and fifteen minuets shall we. I honestly had no idea that this film was that short since I always assumed that it was at least an hour and a half long if not a little bit longer then that and so to find out that it's not even and hour and twenty minuets long was for me quite shocking even more so when you take into account all of the story that they somehow manage to fit into this. Which is a another issue that I have with the film since the film is so short plot points that would come naturally in a longer film here feel rushed.

Overall while I cannot say that this film is better then Frankenstein I can say that it more then matches up to the high standards set by that film. Yes this film does have alot of issues all of which i've talked about this review but for me this is a case where the good out weigh the bad and as such I do feel that this film is must watch for any horror fan and with all of that in mind this film gets a 7 out of 10 from me.
