Scary Movie 2000 Film Review

For as long as horror movies have been popular there have always been willing to parody them and poke fun at alot of there tropes. With none doing that better then The Wayans Brothers with them setting the gold standard for what a horror parody should be so much so that here is a new entry coming out in a franchise that they started with them returning to write and produce the film and so then join me as I review the film that gives us a really good Scream parody with the film in question being called simply just "Scary Movie" enjoy.

The plot of this film is one year after they killed someone Cindy and her friends find themselves being stalked by someone who knows there secret. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Whilst this films main plot does make it look like that they are mainly spoofing I Know What You Did Last Summer the films plot does serve more as a parody of horror films from the nineties with the plot of this film being to able to weave in the parody in a way that does make sense unlike films like Date Movie or Epic Movie where it felt like they were stopping the plot of the film to do the parody. Granted tho this films plot is a bit on the weak side with it being quite hard to tell just what he main plot of this film is even meant to be alot of the time however tho this isn't always seen as a bad thing as it does allow the film to squeeze in some more jokes and have more funny moments with the characters and not be bogged down buy having to explain away things in the plot which is something that it would have had to have done if the makers of this film did choose to put alot more focus on the plot of the film and while yes having more of a focus on the films plot is a good thing it's not really needed to make this films plot work in the first place as the characters and the jokes are more then good enough that it does make you forget just how wafer thin that this films plot is with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell and one of this films co-writers Marlon Wayans as Shorty Meeks. Also starring in this film is Jon Abrahams as Bobby Prinze , Dave Sheridan as Doofy Gilmore , Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks , one of this films co-writers Shawn Wayans as Ray Wilkins , Shannon Elizabeth as Buffy Gilmore , Lochlyn Munro as Greg Phillippe , Cheri Oteri as Gail Hailstorm , Kurt Fuller as Sheriff Burke , Carmen Electra as Drew Decker , Rick Ducommun as Neil Campbell , Jayne Trcka as Miss Mann , Kelly Coffield Park as A Teacher , David L. Lander as Principal 'Squiggy' Squiggman , Andrea Nemeth as Heather , Marissa Jaret Winokur as Tina , this films director Keenen Ivory Wayans as A Slave , Tanja Reichert as Miss Congeniality , Ted Cole as Older Man In Theater and James Van Der Beek as Dawson Leery.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. The fact that this films acting is as good as it is in the first place is something that both not all that surprising but also entirely surprising as while we know today that alot of these actors are really funny people we didn't know that back in 2000 with none of this films not even being that well known therefore it was still surprising that we got to see some really good and funny performances in this film as it is something that we very easily could have had if the makers of this film chose the wrong people to be in this film. With the best actor in this film being Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell as even back in the year 2000 she was still giving us alot of laughs in this film with making what could have been seen as a character that's nothing more then a Sidney Prescott knock off character which to be fair she pretty much is in this film yet she still make her feel like her own unique character that while yes she can be seen as being dim and not all that smart but she is the only one who right from the get go is willing to do the right thing with her even being the kind of kind of character that would do her best to help her friends with all of these things coming through in her final performance and it is something that does make her performance in this film be all the more better then what it really had any right to be. With the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Character wise much like with the films acting the films characters are alot more better then what they could have been. While Cindy is pretty much a more dimmed down version of Sidney from Scream that is pretty much the point of her character as alot of this films characters are meant to be spoofs of the characters from Scream with Bobby and Ray and being Billy and Stu respectively and Buffy and Brenda share the character of Tatum with no one really being the Randy character and yet these are things that do work for this film as the whole point of this film is lovingly lampoon Scream and other horror films of the nineties and alot of that does include having these self referential character that are fully aware of the fact that they in a horror film. Yet at the same time the characters are unique enough that if you remove the character that that are meant to be lampooning they do still stand on there own with the only thing that does let the characters down is the fact that you do know where each character is going just based on who they are lampooning when it would have helped the film alot more if we the audience had no idea where each character was going to end up as that would allow the characters the chance to actually grow as characters and for the makers of this film to have alot more fun at the expense of the characters from Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer as alot of this films characters do spoof these characters and yet it's not done in a meanspirited way rather it's done in a way that does say that these characters are making fun of these other characters but our characters aren't that good and that's really it, with alot of the characters having other sides to them that do make them feel more fleshed out like Buffy can be a snob sometimes but she's the first one to notice that Greg is in serious trouble and does try to do something about and it's the same for alot of this films main characters which is something that really does make feel more well thought out then other parody characters.

As was mentioned this film does mainly spoof both the original I Know What You Did Last Summer and the original Scream. However there are alot of parodies in this film and all of them do feel right as there not only spoofing things that were popular for five minuets like they did in the later Scary Movie sequels but there spoofing films that alot of people still know about to this day like The Usual Suspects with it's big ending reveal or the fact that they do a brief but still pretty funny spoof of The Blair Witch Project and heck it's not even just horror films that get spoofed as they reference Dawson's Creek among other things and yet none of them feel out of place as they are all woven into the plot on the film in an organic way. Whereas in later parody movies they would just parody anything even if they haven't seen the thing that there making fun off whereas here it does feel like that the makers of this film did fully understand that they had to make the parody work and because of that it does come across as them having a love for the thing that they are meant to be spoofing with alot of the things that they are spoofing being things that are still being talked about to this very day. This is something that does set this film apart from other parody movies that came out after this film as alot of them had the premise of only spoofing one certain type of movie but would then involve other pop culture references for no reason here outside of few parodies to TV adverts and one TV show they do mainly stick to horror and while the plot of the film does make it seem like they would just be spoofing slasher films they really don't as they just poke fun at alot of the popular films that came out in the nineties and while it would have worked just as well to see them spoof some classic slasher tropes in the way that Scream itself would do just spoofing these more popular films is something that does work as well as it is something that alot of the mainstream audience would know about.

In what is something that could be seen as being an understandable move this films central mystery isn't all that good. This is something that does make sense as the film is meant to be more of comedy then a mystery film and therefor the makers of this film didn't put alot of thought and effort into there mystery as they would have been putting all of that love and attention to the films jokes which is understandable however tho there did still need to be some love and thought given to this films mystery something which they could have done by giving us clues so that we the audience could have worked out who the killers of the films are but instead of doing it in a more subtle way like they did in the first Scream film they could have done in a way that makes sense for this film. That being make the clues as over the top and as obvious as they could have done and to be fair to this film it is something that do try do by having the character of Bobby straight recite lines from the first Scream film word for word but they don't go all the way with it by having Ray also do that exact same thing alot of the time as the only time that ray does is during the big reveal whereas Bobby does it quite alot of the time. This is something that really does make it obvious that these two are the films killers and it is something that would have made sense for this film and yet they don't do it rather they instead chose to focus more on fart jokes then on giving us a more well thought out but still funny mystery with the only big thing to come out of the film during the big reveal was the reveal of a third killer which is a good idea and the fact that we don't get to find out what his motive is is something that does make that idea slightly more funny then what it really should have been.

The film does give both Bobby and Ray reasons for taking up the Ghostface mantle with the reasons being as funny as you'd expect with Bobby just wanting to get laid and Ray being upset that his favorite TV show "The Wayans Bros." was cancelled without even getting a proper final episode both of these reasons whilst they are dumb reasons in the first place are perfectly in keeping with the rest of the film as the film is all about pushing what you can do with a parody and then doing the most stupidest thing that you can do with and this is something that the killers motives do do with even Bobby's motive being something that could be seen as being a direct correlation of him being a spoof of Billy Loomis as Billy did spend a good chuck of the that first Scream film trying to get laid. As for Ray his reason to be a killer is something that is just pure comedy gold as let's be real here we have all gotten upset over the fact that our favorite TV show has gotten cancelled at some point in time with the thing that makes it funnier being the fact that Ray's actor Shawn Wayans not only created "The Wayans Bros." but also starred in it with Marlon Wayans with the pair of them even singing the shows opening theme song, this is something that does make that reason to be a killer be all the more funny as it feels alot less like a person being angry that there favorite TV show was cancelled but more like that one of the creator and stars of that show was angry that it got cancelled before they had a chance to finish it off properly and yet neither character does come across as being truly evil whereas with Billy and Stu once you get to around about the half way mark of that first Scream film you do see them acting more and more evil but here in this film you see Bobby and Ray just being there typical likable selves which is something that does make the big reveal be all the more shocking and while the second film just straight up ignored it it was a really well done reveal.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and twenty eight minuets and twenty eight seconds. This is pretty much the bogstanderd running time for a film like this one to have and to be fair to this film it is pretty much the perfect running time for this film to have as the film doesn't have alot of things to set up outside of it's characters and mystery as we don't need to know how this films world works as it's a clear parody of the world of Scream and we don't need to have alot of backstory given to us as that would get in the way of the films jokes with the film even having the ight amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time in the first place. However tho this film doesn't really use it's running time all that wisely due to the fact that the film really doesn't take the time to fully develop it's plot and whilst this is understandable as this film was meant to be a one and done film and therefor the makers of this film did devote more time to it's jokes which does result in the film having less time to develop it's plot it still would have been nice if the makers of this film did devote more time to its plot as then the makers of this film would be able to make a film that does stand on its own if you remove the parody aspect of it with this being something that doesn't happen as the film is so closely linked to spoofing both I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream that you can't think of this film without thinking of those films and yet if the film did give more time to it's plot the film would be able to stand more on its own. This is somethin that does kind of effect the films character development as while the films characters don't get that much character development in the final cut of the film one could make the case that that's the point of these characters as they are meant to be spoofs of other better characters but it still would have been nice if this film did devote more time to making its characters be more well thought and developed but the makers of this film cared more about the jokes then they did about giving the characters any kind of character development but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Look to be frank alot of this films especially the ones that they make about Ray as funny as they are they are also the kinds of jokes that would stop this film from being made today abut on a more positive side the film does through so many jokes at you that it really doesn't matter if they tell a bad joke because by the time they've told that one bad joke they've quickly followed it up with two of three really funny jokes. With the films best joke being the whole scene with Brenda and Ray at the movies as the whole thing is just one big parody of the opening scene from Scream 2 even down to the fact that Brenda just doesn't shut up even when the movie is playing with it being this that sees her get killed not by Ghostface but by all of the other theater goers with alot of them even getting there own quick quip about she ruined another movie screening that they were at which is just such a funny scene as it does flip that whole Scream 2 opening scene on its head by just pointing out how funny a scene like that could very easily have become and while the next film does retcon that scene out the fact that it is was included in the film in the first place is more then enough to make it a funny joke with the thing that takes it over the top being the fact that Regina Hall is just so funny in that scene with her acting as obnoxious as Brenda could be without it getting to the point where the character becomes unlikable with the rest of the films jokes being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while the new film does seem to be a return to form for this ailing franchise given how the reactions have gone to just the films trailers alone. That doesn't mean that this film really is lacking as this is film is still just as funny today as it was back in 2000 with this film proving that parody films really can be funny when there being made by the right creative team in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as ell as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from Tenor , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this film being Google Images simply because Google Images actually has images from this film really are up and on Google Images and plus pretty much much all of the images that I personally found on Google Images were all really very fairly high quality and as well as being as really very fairly high definition as well and so then horror fans we end this review as we always do with really our one and true goddess Elvira wishing us all some really very unpleasant dreams.
