Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers Review

Ladies and gentlemen it's Halloween which means I get to watch and review another film in the Halloween franchise and while last year I did promise that i'd be watching and reviewing Halloween III: Season Of The Witch I forgot all about that promise. As such i'm now making a vow that I will only be covering the Michael Myers as such here is my review of "Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers" enjoy.

The plot of the film is ten years after being blown up and turned being into an extra crispy piece of chicken Michael Myers is somehow back but is now stalking his young niece and it's up to the also somehow still alive Dr. Sam Loomis and Sheriff Ben Meeker to stop him for good and to make sure no more sequels happen. The plot of this movie is just a carbon copy of the original since almost everything that happens in this film plot wise happens in the original film and because of that the story is predictable as all hell.

Reprising his role from the first two Halloween films is an extra crispy Donald Pleasence as Dr. Sam Loomis. Also starring in this film is Halloween 2007 remake Annie Brackett (Danielle Harris) as Jamie Lloyd , Ellie Cornell as Rachel Carruthers , George P. Wilbur as Michael Myers , Michael Pataki as Dr. Hoffman , Beau Starr as Sheriff Ben Meeker , Kathleen Kinmont as Kelly Meeker and Sasha Jenson as Brady.

The acting in the film isn't the worst aspect of this film in fact it's honestly one of it's better points since the actors are still trying there best to make the script work. However what lets the actors down is the script which as mentioned before gives them a rehashed story and little to no character to work with as such even tho both Donald Pleasence and Danielle Harris are great actors and they both do a good job in this film they can't turn in anything more then an OK performance in this film and the same goes for the rest of the cast as well.

The biggest sin that this film makes is that they kill of Ted Hollister that man was a local legend and just like Ben Tramer his name shall be etched in the history books. Honestly how this film thought that they could get away with killing of such a good character like Ted Hollister is beyond me everybody in Haddonfield loved him weather they knew it or not but now with Halloween 2018 ignoring every film apart from the original 1978 Halloween some justice can be done to such a great character and a great human being.

Yes I fully admit that i was looking forward to making a Ted Hollister joke in this review and so I just had to get to it as soon as possible. That being said tho why Dr. Loomis chose to get a bunch of drunk rednecks to help protect the town of Haddonfield (where this film and most of this series takes place) makes no sense since as a doctor he should no that given there current state and the fact that they have guns they'd end up doing more harm then good which is exactly what happens since they kill of local legend Ted Hollister.

One of the few bright spots in the film is the character of Jamie Lloyd who as mentioned is played by the seriously stunning scream horror actress icon Danielle Harris. I honestly liked this character just because there are so few horror films were we get to see a little kid be the killer's main target and it helps that the writing when it comes to this character is so good it's no wonder that the character became a fan favourite.

That being said I don't like the fact that they killed of Laurie Stode off screen since she is Michael's true enemy. As such it would have made more sense if they actually showed Michael killing her at the start of this movie plus this way we'd get to see what Jamie Lloyd was like before her mother (who is Laurie Stode by the way for those that don't know) died since we don't get to see any of that in this film which is a shame because it would have made the film more interesting in my opinion.

This film has a total running time of one hour and twenty eight minuets which isn't enough time to tell this story at all. Since you only have two returning characters and so you still have to set up a bunch of new characters as well as reestablish the threat that is Michael Myers which given that this film is one hour and twenty minuets it just doesn't have enough time to do all of that and tell a decent story if anything this film should have been at least an hour and forty minuets if not an hour and forty five minuets long but that's just what I think tho.

Now even tho this isn't mentioned in this film the character of Lindsey (played by Leslie L. Rohland) is meant to be Lindsey Wallace from the 1978 original Halloween film (which is of course called Halloween) which I guess makes sense timeline wise since this version of Lindsey Wallace would be around sixteen or seventeen years old at this point. What doesn't make sense however is the fact that they don't have Michael somebody who was trying to kill her n the first film go after Lindsey Wallace in this film.

Now then boys and girls since this is a slasher film that does mean that we have to talk about the kills in the film. Which for me were very hit and miss since for every kill that looked good and had some decent gore there was always one or two more that didn't look that good which is a shame because the good kills in this film are so over the wall that they become good just due to how insane and how fun they are to see play out in the film.

Overall while this film was indeed a decent sequel it also defiantly marks in turn in the quality of each film since each Halloween film for the next few sequels takes a dip if quality. However with that being said there are a few good things in this film all of which i've mentioned in this review but there are also more bad things about he film which i've also covered in this review and so Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers gets a 6 out of 10 from me. As for where I got the images that I used in this review from well I got them from either the official Halloween Film Series fandom wiki page or Google Images and for once I have no idea which website you should use so I say use either one if you want images from this film and as always we end this review as we always do with our one true goddess Elvira wishing us all some very unpleasant dreams.

The Final Film Review

There are alot of horror films that sadly don't get alot of attention from either the mainstream audience or die hard horror fans alike....
