The Exorcist 1973 Film Review

When it comes to cinema there are so few horror films that can actually have some weight to the claim that they are the scariest film ever made. Well the film that i'm about to review for you all today is one such film as even tho i've never seen this film before this review I can now truly see why many claim this film to be one of the scariest films ever made and with the new film coming out in just a few short days I thought that now was the absolutely right time to check this film and so then join me as I review the film that made Linda Blair a household name with the film in question being called simply just "The Exorcist" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when a mother finds out that her daughter is processed she sets about getting this evil spirit out of her daughter with the help of two priests. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the plot being alot better then what I thought that it would be as well as being alot more engaging then what I thought that it would be as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Linda Blair as Regan MacNeil , Ellen Burstyn as Chris MacNeil and Max Von Sydow as Father Lankester Merrin. Also starring in his film is Lee J. Cobb as Lieutenant William F. Kinderman , Kitty Winn as Sharon Spencer , Jack MacGowran as Burke Dennings , Jason Miller as Father / Dr. Damien Karras, S.J. , Father William O'Malley as Father Joseph Dyer , Barton Heyman as Dr. Samuel Klein , Peter Masterson as Dr. Barringer , Rudolf Schündler as Karl , Vasiliki Maliaros as Mrs. Karras , Titos Vandis as John , Wallace Rooney as Bishop Michael , Ron Faber as Chuck and The Voice of Pazuzu , Donna Mitchell as Mary Jo Perrin , Dick Callinan as Captain Billy Cutshaw and Mercedes McCambridge as The Voice of Pazuzu.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us n this very film was in all honesty really good. With this this films acting being alot better then what I thought that it would be and what really helps the acting is not only the fact that this films cast are a bunch of genuinely really good actors and actresses but also the fact that this films script is really good and so all the cast have to do is just say the lines as they are written and good performance will come out of them naturally.

Of course this film is adapted from the 10971 novel of the exact same name which was also written by this films writer and producer William Peter Blatty. From what little information I can gather about both the book and the film this film adaptation is a very faithful adaptation of the book which is something that you very rarely get to see but it's something that does make sense when you take into account that the books author was heavily involved with getting this movie made even like I said writing the films screenplay and producing the film himself but there is a downside to that and that is the fact that this film does have alot of scenes that don't add to the plot or it's characters and are scenes that could have been left out the film as a whole.

To me what is key to making this film work is the relationship between Chris and Regan as without you buying the as a mother and daughter all the creepy stuff that happens later on in the film just doesn't mean all that much. This is why the early scenes with them just being a mother and daughter are key to making this film because it's due to those scenes that we get to buy into them as a mother and daughter which means that when Chris gets scared we get scared and when Regan is finally free from her possession at the end of the film we feel joy to finally them together again and all of that just wouldn't be possible if we couldn't buy them as a mother and daughter.

As seems to be par the course it seems with the rest of this franchise this film suffered from production issues. From actors getting injured to actors dying anything that could happen during the production of this movie most likely did happen so much so that it led many to believe that the film was cursed which just goes to show you that alot of possession films are cursed as the same thing also happened during the making of the Poltergeist movies as well which does make me wonder if both films were indeed cursed as having those events happen on one film could just be a freak of nature but having it happen on two separate films that just seems like to much of a coincidence for it not to be true in someway shape or form.

As much as I really do love this and as much as alot of the shots in this film belong on the OnePerfectShot X account. This film was incredibly boring with alot of scenes being in their not to add to the plot of the movie but just being in their just because the makers of the film wanted them in their which did make the film feel like a chore a sit through and while this film really does earn the title of one of the scariest films ever made just due to hoe hyped up this film has been over the decades it just wasn't all that creepy or scary and while the makers of the film can't stop the fans from talking about the film they really could have added alot more scenes in the film that do really add to the overall plot of the film.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and twelve minuets and twenty one seconds. As yes I am doing this review based of off the directors cut of the movie but even with that mind this film is far to long then what it really needs to be with the opening twenty minuets not adding anything to the overall plot of the film and it's those twenty minuets that are just so boring to watch and to sit through and I get it you have to sit through the boring stuff in order for the scary stuff to make sense but the those opening twenty minuets are just so dull and boring and when you also add in the fact that this film really doesn't have alot of story there to cover that large amount of running time it makes you wonder why the makers of this film chose to make this film really as long as it is with this not really being helped by the fact that this film really does have some pretty bad pacing to it.

So now then as this is a horror film that means that I have to actually talk abut the actual scares that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual scares that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film were in all honesty not that bad. With this film having some genuinely creepy moments in it but to me what makes this film scary isn't Regan turning head all the way around or Regan doing a spider walk but the very idea of a loved one becoming possessed by something that is truly evil and not being able to do anything to help them and it's that very idea that makes this film a really creepy and at times scary film for me in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while I can see why alot of people really do like this film and while I am glad to have finally seen this film it was just a really dull film and at times a very boring film as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at lest. ow then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film earns itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got al of the images tat I personally used in this review from Wikipedia , IMP Awards . Com and google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this film being Google Images simply because Google Images actually has images from this film up on Google Images and plus pretty much much all of the images that I personally found on Google Images were all really very fairly high quality and as well as being as really very fairly high definition as well and so then horror fans we end this review as we always do with really our one and true goddess Elvira wishing us all some really very unpleasant dreams.
