The Lost Boys Film Review

When it comes to horrifying creatures of the night there are none that are really so iconic as that of vampires. With vampires having been a huge staple of horror for decades at this point and yet with them having featured in thousands of films over the decades there's only a select few that people will say are the best of the best with the film that i'm about to review for you all today being one such a film and so then join me as I review that is quite literally named after a group of Peter Pan characters with the film in question being called simply just "The Lost Boys" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when his brother gets turned in vampire it's up to Sam Emerson to find out who the head vampire is and kill them in order to save his brother once and for all. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then n all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with this films plot being really fresh and different as it's a plot that really hasn't been all that much in vampire media before now as alot of vampire just deals with the same kind of plot and yet this film gives us a new plot for these truly iconic characters that feels well and truly timeless with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Jason Patric as Michael Emerson , Corey Haim as Sam Emerson and Dianne Wiest as Lucy Emerson. Also starring in this film is Barnard Hughes as Grandpa , Edward Herrmann as Max , Kiefer Sutherland as David , Jami Gertz as Star , Corey Feldman as Edgar Frog , Jamison Newlander as Alan Frog , Brooke McCarter as Paul , Billy Wirth as Dwayne , Alex Winter as Marko , Chance Michael Corbitt as Laddie , Alexander Bacan Chapman as Greg , Nori Morgan as Shelly , Kelly Jo Minter as Maria and Tim Cappello as The Beach Concert Star.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with this films cast turning in some truly decent performances. However when you think of this films cast you usually think of better acting then what they deliver in this film as this films cast just don't deliver the kind of performance that we all know that they can deliver thanks to all of the other films an TV shows that this films cast have been apart off but what really does help the acting in this film is the fact that the films script is just so good that all the films cast simply have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally.

To give this film some credit it does have alot of really likable characters with the same thing also being true for the films main villain David Powers who as mentioned before is payed by the great Kiefer Sutherland. As that is something that does make sense as his character is meant to seduce and make you want to become a vampire even when you really don't want to and with alot of this films characters being extremely likable it makes it easier to form a connection with them and want to see them succeed as the films characters really are just that likable with it being hard to find a single character in this film who is really unlikable as it would have been very easy for the makers of this film to make David or Michael the most unlikable characters in the film and yet due to Michael's character arc and due to how good the films script is both of them come across as being really likable characters which makes them both standout when compared to other horror characters.

Weirdly enough when this film was first being developed with it's eventual executive producer Richard Donner set to direct the film was going to be almost exactly like The Goonies. With all of the vampire characters being around fourteen years old and Sam , Edgar and Alan being around eight years old however this was changed once Donner stepped down as he then brought out writer Jeffrey Boam with his instruction being to make the film more adult and to age up all of the characters and with that Donner left the project as it's director and was replaced by director Joel Schumacher so while Joel Schumacher does rather rightfully deserve alot of the praise that he got for the film as he did create an atmosphere on set that allowed for the cast to have input in there characters and improvise lines of dialog to better fit there characters Richard Donner and Jeffrey Boam also deserve praise for seeing that original script might not be working and taking active steps to make it work at an early stage of the films pre-production.

As was stated at the start of this review this film is titled after a bunch of characters from Peter Pan those of course being The Lost Boys. This wasn't a coincidence either as the films co-writer James Jeremias openly admitted to being inspired by Peter Pan as he was quoted as saying "I had read Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, and in that there was a 200-year-old vampire trapped in the body of a 12-year-old girl. Since Peter Pan had been one of my all-time favourite stories, I thought, What if the reason Peter Pan came out at night and never grew up and could fly was because he was a vampire?" Taking inspiration from the tale of Peter Pan is a good idea however the film does nothing with this idea like what if instead of being just random kids what if the titular Lost Boys where all named after characters from Peter Pan with David himself being called Peter this is something that the film does try to do with Sam's brother being called Michael but that's really it yet they could have done so much more as if your going to be inspired by Peter Pan then go all the way with it and have some fun with it.

This film from what I can gather is fairly well loved and is frequently voted as one of the best vampire movies of all time. While I can't say if that's true or not just because of the fact that i've not seen all of the other vampire movies out there I can say that this film isn't as fun as it really should have been as this is film that should have been campy and over the top the fun not to the point where all of the characters are acting over the top but to the degree where the film is a blast to watch and where us the audience are having a really great time watching as it is tho the film is a bit boring to watch as there's large portions of the film where nothing is happening to advance to the overall plot of the film and is there just for the sake of being there on paper tho this film should have been fun as the very idea for the film allows it to be a fun but the makers of the film instead chose to strip all of the fun aspects out of the film ad while yes there are indeed elements of this film that are fun to watch the film as a whole just wasn't that fun to watch.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty seven minuets and twenty six seconds. Which is a really rather solid running time for this film to have as the film really doesn't have alot there interms of plot to really cover anything longer then that but at the same time tho it would have been nice if this film did have a slightly longer running time as it would have allowed the film to fully develop it's main plot alot more then what it already does do and it would have allowed the film to fully develop it's characters as well and while yes this would mean stretching the films plot even thinner given that it would mean improving key aspects of the film that would help make it even better then what it is having a plot that's slightly thinner would be worth it but to this films credit this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a vampire film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With this films kills being the most entertaining aspect of the film as it's where the film gets to be the most fun ad when you add in the fact that the kills in this film are also some fairly creative kills as well with there being alot of kills that we really haven't seen done in any other horror film which only makes this film stand out as this is the film where we get to see vampires and none vampires alike killed off in some really creative and in some really cool ways as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this film is quite easily the best film that director Joel Schumacher ever made but at the same time tho it's also a film that's not as good as it really could have or perhaps even should have been in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the mages that I personally used in this very review from the official Batman fandom wiki page , Tenor . Com  , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this film being Google Images simply because Google Images actually has images from this episode up on Google Images and plus pretty much much all of the images that I personally found on Google Images were all really very fairly high quality and as well as being as really very fairly high definition as well and so then horror fans we end this review as we always do with really our one and true goddess Elvira wishing us all some really very unpleasant dreams.

The Final Film Review

There are alot of horror films that sadly don't get alot of attention from either the mainstream audience or die hard horror fans alike....
