When people say that there are no original films being made in Hollywood anymore alot of the time there just looking at the films that all of the big studios are releasing. With them not even paying attention to what the smaller known studios are releasing because if they did they will see that there are plenty of original films being made not only in general but also in the world of horror case in point that the film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today as this film whilst it might look like a typical slasher film it actually does things that are new and different with the formular and so then join me as I review the film that has as many walking scenes as The Lord Of The Rings trilogy with the film in question being called simply just "In A Violent Nature" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when his grave is disturbed when someone takes a necklace that belonged to his mother an undead monster named Johnny raises from the grave bent on getting it back. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the plot of the film being one that's really creative as while yes it could be argued that this films plot is the plot of the stereotypical slasher film it does something new and different by basically having two vastly different films going on at the same time as from the point of view of the teens this film comes across as being a typical slasher film and yet from the point of view of Johnny it comes across as being a revenge film with the films plot being one that could also be seen as being nothing more typical slasher film plot with it's out doors setting being something that was done to keep the costs down the plot doesn't feel like it's being held back by that as the plot still works within those limitations and while yes the plot of the film could be seen as being a bit boring at times as the film does show us Johnny walking to each and every kill that he makes for long periods of time this is something that does help to sell you on the general idea of the film as whole as it would have been very easy to have Johnny just show up where the kids are alot of the time and yet by not doing that it allows us to breathe in this world and it allows the films plot alot more time to breathe as well with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Ry Barrett as Johnny , Andrea Pavlovic as Kris , Cameron Love as Colt and Reece Presley as The Ranger. Also starring in this film is Liam Leone as Troy , So Much Tenderness star Charlotte Creaghan as Aurora , Lea Rose Sebastianis as Brodie , Sam Roulston as Ehren , Alexander Oliver as Evan , Timothy Paul McCarthy as Chuck and Friday The 13th Part 2 star Lauren-Marie Taylor as The Woman.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With the fact that this films acting being as good as it is being something that was quite shocking as not only are all of this films actors a bunch of unknown actors and therefor it would have been foolish to expect even a good performance from them in the first place but the film that we got was actually a reshot version of the film with mostly different actors with this films actors doing a really good job acting in this film which is something that would have been hard to do given the unique premise and idea of the film itself and yet they all pull it off turning in some really good performances in the process with the best actor in the whole entire film being a tie between Ry Barrett as he has to get across alot of emotion and feeling without having his face be seen on camera as Johnny and Charlotte Creaghan who was just delightful to watch as the socially conscious member of the group with her turning in a performance that does make what could have been seen as being a really unlikable character somehow seem all the more likable because of it with the same thing also being true for Ry Barrett as well with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that the script for this film is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
On paper this films main characters do seem like the kind of teenage characters that you expect to see in an eighties slasher film like for example any of the Friday The 13th movies for example. This is something that is kind of the point with there characters as from there point of view they are living through this stereotypical slasher film and therefor they aren't going to be the best done characters and while that might be the point with there characters this is still a major flaw in the film as it also makes them less interesting as characters the badly done characters in eighties slasher films work so well those films were meant to be enjoyed and then forgotten about rather quickly hence why alot of them had the exact same set up and the exact same characters whereas with this film the idea is different enough that you do need new kid characters to help grow that idea and help make the scenes where Johnny is slowly walking to his next kill seem less long and less boring and yet the makers of this film don't really do that and heck we don't even get to find out anything about any of the films main characters outside of Johnny who we are told is someone that died over seventy years ago and that only comes back once a necklace is removed from his grave with him only being killed as he was pushed out of a tree by some people who wanted to get back at his dad which granted is a rather generic origin story for this character but it's more then what we get for the films other characters which is something that does make alot of sense as the only time we see the teens is when Johnny is seeing them but it still would have been nice to find out quite literally anything about them as that is something that would have helped us get to like them as characters.
Alot of slasher films more often then not say that there going to put you in the shoes of the killer and yet none of them do. Well this film is quite literally built around that entire concept and while this might not change the way that horror films are done much like how the original Scream did for slasher films in the nineties it was still nice to see a refreshing change to the slasher genre as it would have been super easy for the makers of this film to just do another slasher film and leave it at that but it's the fact that they didn't do that and instead chose to create something that no one has seen before or since this film that makes this film stand out all the more because of it and while yes this film does prove that there some kinks to be worked out with doing an entire film from the point of view of the killer it also proves that it could be done as well and yet for one reason or another both big and small studios have refused to further look into this idea as it is something that could be done very cheaply as you wouldn't need that many actors in the film in the first lace and if you keep the film in a more filmable location like a city for example then you can hire locally and maybe even call in favors from friends and relatives something which the makers of this film found out the hard way as this film is actually a reshot version as the first attempt to make this film went badly due to them being very ill pre-pared for what it would be like to film in the wilderness amongst many other things and yet the fact that they then after seeing the footage decided to reshoot the whole thing with the films writer and director Chris Nash even putting in his own money to help with the funding does prove that you can do a film like this and do it well if you have the right crew to help to make it come true in the first place.
While this film does get alot of brownie points for being a somewhat original film where it does suffer tho is the fact that for large portions of this film nothing really happens at all. With this being due to the fact that we are following the main killer of the film for alot of the films running time and there's only so long that that can be interesting and be new before it starts to get old and tired which in this film is something that does start to happen quite quickly with this being something it would have been quite handy for the makers of this film to give some screen time to the main hero characters as then it would only not give us anther POV for the film but it would also stop the film from feeling like a chore to watch alot of the time and while yes the point of the film is to quite literally put us in the shoes of the main killer those shoes could have been a bit more exciting as we don't need to see him walk to all of his kills all of the time and while this film is quite clearly taking inspiration from slashers like Friday The 13th and Halloween with it's approach to it's kills both of this film at the very least built up tension so that you actually feel something when a character is killed where as here you are left feeling nothing because of the fact that the makers of this film don't give you a reason to care for any of the films main hero characters infact you end up caring for Johnny the main villain of the film then you do the films teenagers when it would have worked all the more better if we had the same quieter moments that we get with Johnny but with the films hero characters as then not only would the film be alot less of a chore to watch but it also go quite along way in making the films hero characters alot more likable and memorable then what they already are in the first place.
One of the faults that alot of people have with this film is the fact that there are more scenes with Johnny walking then there are in the entire The Lord Of The Rings it seems. Which is something that is understandable as it does get very boring seeing him to walk to each kill and heck the opening five minuets of the film are sent with him just trying to claw his way out of the ground before going on a long walk to his kill but at the same time given that this film is meant to be inspired by early slasher films before the killers could just appear out of thin air it is interesting seeing him get himself into position for all of this film kills as usually films will just cut to the kill with there being very little to know build up to it and yet that's exactly what we get in this film and while the film doesn't give us any kind of tension building at all with t being more focused on showing us how Johnny got to the ranger station for example then it is in giving us some really good tension just the idea alone of showing us how this seemingly unstoppable person got himself into position to kill this one person is something that could be argued is building up tension as the audience know that Johnny is there but the characters don't much like how we know that Michael Myers is on the other side of the glass behind Nancy but she doesn't notice him with the only real difference being here there's no music to clue us in on him being there which is something that makes sense as we're following him for alot of the film but it still would have helped the film if the makers of this film cut down on the amount of shots of him just walking to his next kill as that would have made the film a lot more entertaining to watch and not be that much of a chore to watch.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty three minuets and fifty two seconds. Which for a film like this is pretty much the exact grand total running that you'd expect this film to have with this film having the right amount of plot to fully cover tat amount of running time in the first place but in saying this tho this film doesn't really use it's running time all that wisely as the film doesn't take the time that it has to fully develop it's plot as the film is alot more focused in showing us how Johnny gets to his kills then in further developing it's plot something which it very easily could have die just by cutting down on the scenes of Johnny walking to his next kill as that's not something that we need to see all of the time and while that is part of what makes the film feel unique it's also something that dies make the film feel more boring as well with this even effecting the films character development as none of the films teens get the chance to get across just what it is that makes them tick which granted is true for alot of other slasher films as well so its not really something that's unique to this film however this film could have taken steps to fix it just by having one or two scenes where the characters get the chance to develop there character and get across just what it is that makes them tick much like what the film really does do with the origin of Johnny and by showing Johnny playing with a toy car something is something that makes him feel more human then the films hero characters are but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is a slasher film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films kills being the best aspect of the film with it being made clear that the makers of this film put alot more thought and effort into this films kills then they did anything else as it's in this films kills where the film really does shine with the film having alot of really good looking gore and practical effects in the film all of which are things that work really well in this film and while this films kills aren't as gory as the kills are in say Terrifier 2 are for example we do get alot of really gory kills in this film with the the best kill in the film being when Johnny punches a whole right in the middle of Auroras chest and then he uses his hook to to pull her head backwards through the hole and out clean the other side with that kill being a good example of just how gory that this films kills could be with it being something that does make the film feel unique with the film having alot of over the top gory kills like with Johnny using the log splitter to cut off both the park rangers hand and head in a really tense and gory scene or when Johnny hits a character over NINETY times in the face with an axe with that kill being a good example pf the makers of the film not really pulling any punches and not really holding back as alot of other slasher films just would have shown the character getting hit once maybe twice but that's it but here the makers of the film go over board with that kill with all of the films kills being just as over the top gory as you'd want them to be in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall it's no wonder that this film currently has a sequel on the way as this film is just so good this is despite the fact that the film does have alot of flaws to it that could be seen as holding them film back from being as good as it really wants to be but if the makers of the film have learnt there lesson then the sequel could be just as good if not better then what this film really is in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad thing that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.
Now then as or where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from Tenor , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this film being Google Images simply because Google Images actually has images from this film really are up and on Google Images and plus pretty much much all of the images that I personally found on Google Images were all really very fairly high quality and as well as being as really very fairly high definition as well and so then horror fans we end this review as we always do with really our one and true goddess Elvira wishing us all some really very unpleasant dreams.
