Carry On Screaming! Film Review

Now then film fans and British film fans depending on where your reading this review you'll know that i've been covering some of the Carry On films as of late and well since the makers of the Carry On films made a horror comedy I thought that it was about tine / right that I took a look and review the film in question. As such join me as I review the only horror film entry in the Carry On film franchise with the film in question being called simply just "Carry On Screaming!" enjoy.

The plot of this film is someone is kidnapping young and very attractive women and so it's up to Detective Sergeant Sidney Bung and his inept assistant Detective Constable Slobotham to solve the mystery who is kidnapping these young and very attractive women before it's far to late. The Carry On films aren't really known for having plots and so it's good and oddly refreshing to see a Carry On film that actually has a plot and in terms if what I thought about the plot that's featured / presented to us in this film in all honesty I thought that the plot that's featured / presented to us in this film wasn't that bad but at the same the plot that's featured / presented to us in this film also doesn't allow for a lot of jokes which for a comedy isn't really a good thing in my opinion anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Harry H. Corbett as Detective Sergeant Sidney Bung and Kenneth Williams as Dr Orlando Watt. Also starring in this film is Jim Dale as Albert Potter , Charles Hawtrey as Dan Dann , Fenella Fielding as Valeria Watt , Joan Sims as Emily Bung , Angela Douglas as Doris Mann , Bernard Bresslaw as Sockett , Peter Butterworth as Detective Constable Slobotham , Jon Pertwee as Doctor Fettle , Michael Ward as Mr Vivian , Tom Clegg as Oddbod , Billy Cornelius as Oddbod Junior and Frank Thornton as Mr Jones.

As for what I thought about the acting that's featured / presented to us in this very film well in all honesty the acting that's featured / presented to us in this film is very mixed bag. Since even tho the actors who are starring in this film do indeed turn in some really good performances actors like Harry H. Corbett and Angela Douglas play their respective roles super freaking seriously and that actually hinders there performances since they now can't be as funny as they perhaps could have been if they played there respective characters a little less seriously.

Now then horror fans the Carry On films were known for poking fun at whatever was popular at the time that the then current carry On film was in production / being made. Which in this case one of the most popular things going were the Hammer Horror films and so it only makes sense this film poke fun at not only those films but also poke fun at horror films in general think Scream but decades before Scream was a thing and you'll get a very rough idea of what I mean and as well as you'll also get a very good idea of what type of film that your in for when you see this film.

In all honesty what I wasn't expecting from this film was for there to be a bunch of references to horror characters and to over horror films. Which while those references were indeed nice to see and nice to hear I don't think that those references were really needed since all they did in this case was remind me that I could have been watching something better which for any film is never a good sign since you want people to be reminded about your film and you don't want people to be thinking that they could have been watching a better film when those exact same people are busy watching your film but that's just what I think anyways and that's just in my very humble and as well as being in my very honest opinion anyways / at least.

There was one very big mistake with this film which even tho it's something that the makers of this film really couldn't help it's something that really did make me laugh it's something that is still an issue with this film. With that issue being that even tho this film is meant to be set in Edwardian England the houses that you se in the background are vert clearly more modern houses and even tho the makers of this film couldn't go around to home owner where they were filming this film and ask all of those exact same homeowners if the makers of this film could radically change the out of their home you'd have thought that more effort would have gone into hiding the fact that you can quite clearly see that they actually in 1966 England and not Edwardian era England.

Now then since this film is a horror comedy it only makes sense that I now talk about both aspects of this film so let's start of with the horror aspect shall we. This film like I said pokes fun at the Hammer Horror films and the Hammer Horror film craze that was going at the time and so this film has more gothic look which does help sell  you on the scares that this film had but at the same time there really aren't that many if actual scares in this film with the film instead choosing to put alot more focus on the comedy aspect of the this horror comedy film.

Now then this film has a grand total running time of one hour and thirty six minuets and seventeen seconds and well if i'm being really freaking honest here people. This film does indeed feel a bit on the the long side simply because when you get right down to it there really isn't that much there in terms of plot and so you very easily could have shaved six minuets of this film and have this film come in at one hour and thirty minuets and you'd have to loose nothing that's actually important to the plot of this particular / very film.

Now then boys and girls since i've just this second finished talking about the actual horror element of this film it now only makes sense that I now talk about the actual comedy aspect / element of this horror comedy film and well if i'm being really freaking honest here people the comedy in this film wasn't that good either. Don't get me wrong when the film does infact tell a good joke you really do no about it but nine times out of ten all the jokes that are featured / presented to us in this film are just flat out bad and as well as being flat out unfunny jokes which for a comedy and for a Carry On film is a very bad thing indeed in my opinion anyways / at least.

Overall this was a pretty bad film and a pretty bad Carry On film as well which is a shame because I really did like this film when I was growing up as a kid infact this might have been one of if not the earliest horror film that I actually saw. Now then since i've talked about both of the good and as well as being both of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review that means that this film gets a 6.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then I personally got al of the images that I used in this very review from the official House Of Wax film fandom wiki page ,the official Carry On fandom wiki page and Google Images with Google Images being the website that I personally preferred to use to get the images from this film that I personally used in this very review simply because alot of if not all of the images that I personally found that are currently up on Google Images are also fairly high quality and as well as being fairly high definition. Now then we end this review as we end every single horror review that I personally make / write which is with our one true goddess Elvira wishing us all some very unpleasant dreams indeed.

The Final Film Review

There are alot of horror films that sadly don't get alot of attention from either the mainstream audience or die hard horror fans alike....
