There are so many horror films out there that it would be impossible for anyone to watch every single one of them as and when there released. As is the case with the film that i'm about to be reviewing for you all today as even tho this film was released in February of this year it's only now that i'm finally getting around to watching it mostly because of the fact that it's main character has become somewhat of a cult favorite character and so then join me as I review the film that is meant to be set in the same fictional world as Jennifer's Body with the film in question being called simply just "Lisa Frankenstein" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when misunderstood teenage girl Lisa Swallows accidently brings back to life a victorian gentlemen both he and and she embark on a romance that could be deadly for those around them. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as the plot whilst it isn't all that unique as the film Warm Bodies did have a sort of similar plot to it this film does add enough new and fresh things to it's plot that it does make it feel new and different again but at the same time tho the plot really isn't all that strong at least for a feature film as this is the kind of plot that really could have been the plot of an hour long special or a short film but it's plot that's not all that strong for a feature film which is something that does make it hard to buy into this plot as all your left doing is waiting for all of the things that you know are going to happen instead of fully buying into it's plot but the one thing that this films plot does have going for it is the fact that it's so out there and so weird that you can't help but to fall in love it regardless of the quality of the actual plot itself with this films plot also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Kathryn Newton as Lisa Swallows , Cole Sprouse as The Creature and Liza Soberano as Taffy. Also starring in this film is Henry Eikenberry as Michael , Joe Chrest as Dale Swallows , Joey Bree Harris as Tamara , M3gan star Jenna Davis as Lori , Paola Andino as Misty , Bryce Romero as Doug Walker , Trina LaFargue as Tricia and Watchmen and Sucker Punch star Carla Gugino as Janet.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Which was something that was really surprising as you look at this films actors and you don't really think of good acting mostly because of the fact that alot of them really haven't been in anything that's all that good or got there start on Disney Channel shows which in of themselves don't usually have good acting in them and as a result of that is the fact that it really would have been foolish to expect good acting from this film and yet that's exactly what we got in this film with all of this film actors really turning some really good performances with all of the ac,tors that are in this film really being the true standout performers in this film as all of this films actors are just so good which is something that you really do expect from say someone like Carla Gugino for example but then you also get it from alot of this films more younger actors as well with the acting that's in this very film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors really have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance really will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
What was really surprising was the fact that nearly all of this films characters including the villains are indeed some really likable characters in there own right. Which is something that you don't really see in alot of horror films as pretty much all f them only make the characters that your meant to like actually likable and make the villains as unlikable as possible but here because of the fact that the films main "villains" are also the main protagonists of the film then they have to make them likable as well and that is something that is done really well as all of the characters even the ones that your meant to hate have something likable about them like for example Janet who does want Lisa sent to mental hospital but she's coming from a really good place as she only wants that to keep not only herself safe first and foremost but she also wants to keep her family safe as well and while Taffy does get with the boy that Lisa likes by the end of the film she only does it because that's how everyone sees her and not because of the fact that she takes pleasure from it and it's like that with all of this films characters with all of them doing things that could be seen as unlikable but they all come from a place that's makes them likable and that is something that is really refreshing to see in a film and even Lisa herself even tho she does commit these heinous crimes she only does it to people who have done something to her personally and she only does it to help someone else out and not because of the fact that she takes pleasure from it.
In case you are wondering according to this films writer and co=producer Diablo Cody this film is meant to be set within the same fictional world as Jennifer's Body. Which just seems off as it seems like a way to attach this film to a film that very few people actually saw and that very few people actually like when it would have been better to have this film serve as a standalone film that's set within a different world to that of Jennifer's Body as this film adds nothing to that film and now it means that both vampires and zombies exist in the same world and given that this film takes place almost twenty years before Jennifer's Body it means that there have pretty much been zombies in there for twenty years and yet no one's talked about it which just seems weird as you'd think that a teen going around killing people would be seen as being big news and while there is a chance that Lisa might not have killed again after the events of this film there's also a very strong chance that she could have killed again as there's bound to be someone the recognised her later on life and that would have forced her to start killing again with it becoming big news all over again something which would have been mentioned in Jennifer's Body and yet it most likely wasn't and yet at the exact same time it is also fun to think that this now means that there's a fifty percent chance that we could get a future crossover between the two films somewhere down the line tho.
While this film didn't make that much of a splash at the box office when it was first released earlier this year. It has gone on to become somewhat of a cult classic and that is something that does make alot of sense as this film is just so weird and so strange that it was going to always going toa appease those that are into weird and strange films and not the mainstream audience and while the main stream audience didn't take this film to heart it's those people that like these weird sort of films that have really embraced the film so much so that there are fan arts of the films title character and fan made merchandise for the film put there which is something that you do see for cult films but you don't see it happen this quickly and certainly not within the first year of the film being released and alot of what makes this film seem weird and out there and perfect for the cult audience that took this film to heart is the fact that as well as being a comedy horror film it's also a romance film that was released on Valentines Day so when people where going to see the more traditional romantic film there was this little weird film out there that also had some really good laughs and kills in it but it also had a really strong romance to it as well as we get to see the main characters actually form a bond with each other and it gets to the point where you do buy them as a romantic couple and while yes the romance could have been done a little bit better to straight up say that it was bad would just be a foolish thing to do as in the case of this film it just wouldn't be all that very true.
As a comedy this film does fair really well as there are some really good jokes in this film with this film really balancing all three of it's angels really well. With there being alot of really funny jokes and it could even be argues that the film does also have alot of really funny kills in it as well as Michael's kill in the film is done in slow motion and it gets to the point where you do start to laugh at it as they go really over the top with it which is funny and the film is filled to the brim with alot of jokes that are like that alot of them do nine times out of ten work really well and while yes there are are always going to be some really bad jokes in this very film those are very few and far between and while yes alot of Taffy says can come across as being painfully annoying at times that could also be seen as being the point with that character and it helps that she does get some decent jokes as well but at the same time tho this film really isn't as funny as it really should have been as this film really should have gone all the way with it's humour and it's kills by pushing the kills so far to the extreme that they become comical which would have been fitting with the tone that this film has and it worked for this films characters as well and yet because of the fact that this film doesn't go that far with it's jokes alot of this films humor just feel like the type of jokes that you'd see in any Diablo Cody film and don;t feel all that unique to this film.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and forty one minuets and thirty seconds. Which is a really solid running time for this film to have as this film really does have more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that large amount of running time and while yes this film really could have been alot longer which would have resulted in the film being able to fully develop all of it's characters instead of just one or two and it would have also have allowed for the film to fully flesh out all of it's ideas as well because as things stand alot of this films characters are very one dimensional characters with the best example of that being Dale Swallows who doesn't have much to him personalty wise but at the same time given his backstory how his wife was murdered infront of his only daughter it would have been if the film did take a minuet to tell us how this character felt about his ex-wife's death and how he coped with it and why he choose to marry someone else so soon after his wife had just died but at the same time tho alot of those scenes could also be seen as being nothing more the filler as alot of those character development scenes would add nothing to the actual plot of the film and while the film being able to fully flesh out it's ideas there;s no way that the film would be able to do that in a way that feels natural as it would also require adding in scenes that could also be seen as being nothing more then filler scenes that add nothing to the overall plot of the film but I really admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is a horror film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As alot of this films kills are done in a way that they could be also be seen as being really comedic as well and while we do get alot of kills in this film not that many of them are actually good kills with alot of them just coming out of nowhere with there being very little to know build up with best example of this being an Old Man that the creature kills for no reason which granted is fitting for that character and while what we don't see could make his kill all the more terrifying the actual kill itself just isn't all that good as it's something that really does come out of nowhere but to give this film some credit alot more of the films kills are really good with even the most6 simplest kill in this case that of Janet being a really good kill as it's a key plot point and it is a kill that is actually very well built up which is a good way to do a kill and it ks something that does make that kill a really effective kill with the fact that this film does also have some really good looking gore effects also being something that does help sell you on the kills as the blood does look real and it's something that does make alot of this films kills alot more better then what they actually are in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this film is worth watching but at the same time it's core idea is one that's already been done in other horror films which does make this film feel alot less creative then what it actually is and while this film does add new things to it and is a really good film in it's own right it's also film that you have to be in the right mood to fully enjoy and get alot of enjoyment from as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well the boys and girls and as well as ladies ad gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from Tenor , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this film being Google Images really simply because Google Images actually really has images from this film really are up and on Google Images and really plus pretty much all of the images that I personally found on Google Images really were all really very fairly high quality and as well as being as really very fairly high definition as well and so then horror fans we really do end this review as we really always do with really our one and really true goddess Elvira wishing us all some really very unpleasant dreams.
