Betty's Revenge Film Review

The current in thing to do in horror films these days seems to be not to come up with anything new or original but to rather either A produce a sequel to a popular horror film or B produce a slasher movie where the main villain happens to be a beloved children's character. As now we have yet anther one of these schlocky movies only now the beloved cartoon character is one that not alot of kids or grown ups for that matter know about as it's Betty Boop so join me as I review the film that quite literally has an ending that really is pure filler with the film in question being called simply just "Betty's Revenge" enjoy.

The plot of this film is some college kids go to the home of a former nightclub singer in order to get some details on what happend when the club she worked at burnt down only to end up in a fight for there lives. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really bad. While this films plot is for lack of a better term laughably bad it's still not as bad as the plot of The Mouse Trap or Popeye's Revenge for example as you can tell that there is some form of effort being put into this films plot however tho where the plot of the film does fail in quite literally every other aspect. As the films plot makes no sense as we never find out why Betty is out for revenge in the first place due to the fact that the film never bothers to tell us why she wants revenge on people and the films plot does for a large portion of it's incredibly small running time feel like it's autopilot as the characters just go from room to room with them occasionally being jump scared by Betty herself with there being so little focus going to the films plot it does make it hard to tell just what the main plot of the film is even meant to be alot of the time. Which is sad as the idea of this films plot is one that could make for a passable direct to DVD horror film if the makers of the film bothered to actually focus on the plot instead of showing of the house that the film takes place it which just leaves us with a plot that even for one of these types of horror movies does feel underbaked with the plot of this fil not really being really rather entertaining as well as it not really being really rather engaging either in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Faith McKinstry as Kara , Emma Claire Dykes as Jenna and My Billionaire Husbands Secret Life star Michelle Sherrill as Amelia. Also starring in this film is My Janitor Dad Is the Final Boss star Samuel J. Bennett as Miles , one of this films producers and Minnie's Midnight Massacre star Tiffany McDonald as A Police Officer and The Events Surrounding a Peeping Tom and New Fears Eve star Hannah Fierman as Betty.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really bad. It's fairly usual to expect there to be some bad acting in these kinds of horror films as they are all made really cheaply and really quickly more often then not being made as a quick cash grab that had no thought or effort put into them with this always being reflected in how bad the acting is in these films and yet even with that in mind wow is this acting bad as none of the main hero characters are well acted with all being super wooden at best. This is kind of understandable as these films are made quickly and more often then not never do a take two but it wouldn't have hurt this films actors to at the very least ask for a take two as that would mean that they then could give a better performance something which this films writer director and one of it's producers Brett Bentman would have had alot of say in doing due to the fact that he is the director , the writer and one of the films producers. With the best actor in this whole entire film being Hannah Fierman as Betty as she not only gets alot of the mannerisms down from the original character but she also gets the characters distinctive voice down as well all of which are things that do make more believable as a more twisted version of this classic cartoon character with the acting that's in this very film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad as it gives none pf this films actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does harm the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

To be frank none of this films characters are that well written with them all being nothing more then cardboard outs of stock horror characters. With none of this films characters being even remotely interesting as they all just feel like stock horror characters with nothing new added to them to make them feel new or unique with Kara being afraid of everything including her own shadow which just makes her an annoying character , Jenna is more interested in reading Betty's diary to get a chance to display much of a personality and Miles is just there as he adds nothing to the film with the only thing of note about him being the fact that he goes from nice and kind of charming to angry for literally no reason whatsoever. This just makes it obvious that the makers of this film didn't care about making a good film because of they did they would have spent more then what must have been a weekend writing the script and more then a few days in filming the film itself as they could have had the chance to give us characters that granted won't be that new but they would have come across as being more better as they would have spent alot more time in making them feel more like actual people and less like the characters that you would expect to see in the first raft of a script. However tho as they for some odd reason wanted to be the first Betty Boop themed horror film out there it means that we can't get interesting characters this is despite the fact that having Jenna always be reading Betty's dairy is a good way to give her some connection to the character as it would mean that she would get the chance to see a side of her that doesn't get shown in the film with this being something that could then be used to show of a different side to Jenna herself as she would then have to choose between helping her friends or killing someone that she knows isn't that mentally well.

Usually these films are made because of the fact that it's a still popular cartoon character that's entered the public domain which would thus make it easier to sell to us the audience. Yet here Betty Boop hasn't been popular since the sixties at best which makes it weird that the makers of this film would think that its a good idea to give her her own horror movie and while granted there will be some people such as myself who would be semi-interested in seeing a Betty Boop themed horror film there will be alot more people that don't know about her as her character hasn't been in anything for quite literally decades and therefor it does make it pointless for the makers of this film to make a film where she is the main villain of the film. Heck a much more better option would have been to make a Pluto horror film as while yes he is a side character to Mickey Mouse he is still alot more popular and alot more well known that what Betty Boop heck even Popeye who it could be argued isn't as popular as he once was is still more well known then what she is. This is not to say that there should never be a Betty Boop film as there should be more Betty Boop films but not one where she is the main villain  and not one that's being made and released at a time where her popularity is at it's lowest point as the whole idea behind these types of films is to shift copies of the film either on digital platforms or on DVD and Blu-Ray and that's not something that's going to happen as unless your of a certain age or you love old school cartoons chances are your not going to know who this is character is in the first place and therefor your less likely to want to check out this film in the first place.

Looks there are alot of bad things in this film but there are a few good things to be found in it as well loke the fact that Hannah Fierman does make for a good Betty. With her getting down the characters voice perfectly so much so that you do end up buying her as this character which does make it clear that she's the only one of this films actors that actually took the time to study the source material as she does actually feel like the original character only now she's mixed with a little bit of Harley Quinn for good measure which is fair enough as it is something that does make this take on the character feel unique to this film. With the other good thing being the fact that it does have the characters act somewhat smart as when they discover that all of the doors to the house are locked the first thing that they try to do is break the glass window only to discover that they can't do that either with this being something that is usually a huge bug bear as usually when character discover that they can't get of the house one way they usually just give up on trying to find another way and yet that's the first thing that this films characters do granted it doesn't work out all that well for them but it's the fact that they tried to do it in the first place that does make them seem more smarter then what they look. This is something that does show us the audience that the makers of this film really did know how to create good characters and have a good script as they do have the characters try all of the smart options first before then going along with all of the typical horror cliches when it would have been super easy for the makers of this film to have there characters play dumb for alot of this films running time all because of the fact that it's what they do in other horror films.

Usually when you get to the third act of a film you expect the film to start ramping up to it's climax this film however takes the opposite approach. As for literally no reason whatsoever the film then jumps back in time a few hours to have Jenna having a chat with her mother and then they reply almost the ENTIRE first scene with Jenna and her friends which is just so laughably stupid that it's hard to put it into words as they reveal nothing that impacts the plot of the film during either flashback it's literally just there to pad out the film and that's it as what they show us in those flashback scenes are just stuff that we already knew about the characters in the first place which just makes them being included at that point in the film be all the more pointless. Heck if they really wanted the scene with her mother in the film then why not have the film open up with that scene after the films opening credits as that then would be a more natural starting point then having the film start with the characters just pulling up to Betty's house as then we would be able to get some small amount of background information on the characters and it would make the Dizzy Dishes club have this slight air of mystery about it and yet for whatever reason the makers of this film instead decided not to do any of that as they instead thought that it would make more sense to open up this pretty boring film with this really boring characters arriving to the house and then have them spend a good few minuets just dumping exposition on why they are there when they could have done all of that by having the scene with Jenna and her mother be the scene that opens the film after it's opening kill.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and twelve minuets and thirty four seconds. With the fact that this film having such a short running time being a good thing as it does mean that we don't have to sit through this painfully below average film for very long however tho this film really does have the right amount of plot to cover that amount of running time in the first place as it's so obvious that the flashbacks in this film are only there to pad out the films running time as they add nothing to the overall plot of the film and while the same thing could also be said for the films opening kill that kill was only there to get us in the mood for the film and therefor it didn't really need o connect to the main part of the film in the first place. This film also doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as it doesn't take the time to fully develop it's plot with it feeling like the makers of this film were treating this films plot more like an after thought as they thought that people would watch this film just due to the fact that they have a well known cartoon character as the films main villain which isn't bad thinking but the cartoon character still needs to be somewhat known for that thinking to make sense with this not being the case for Betty Boop therefor the makers of this film really should have put alot of them into developing the films plot. They don't even take the time to fully develop any of it's characters either as they really all just come across as being very note and very boring characters even Betty who is by far the films best character is still a pretty dull character as we don't even get to really find out why she's out for revenge in the first place which is the whole point of the film in the first place but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a slasher film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual kills that are actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual kills that are featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty OK at best. With this film committing the biggest sin that any slasher film could commit and that's not show us one of the films kills as while we do get to see two of the films three kills the film for some odd reason chooses not to show us one of the films kills not only that the film does go along time without showing us a kill when in a slasher film you do want to have the kills happen as quickly as possible even more so when you take into account that this film isn't even that long in the first place which makes it pointless for this film to be a slasher film. With the best kill in the whole entire film also being the films opening kill as we for some odd reason see that Betty can transport behind people for no reason with her her then stabbing the Police Woman that has come to check on her house in the back which is a simple kill but it is one that does get you in the mood for the rest of the film yet it does make you wonder why the makers of the film wouldn't bother to try and top that kill as  even tho this film doesn't have a big budget they could have put a good chunk of that budget into the films kills which would have the effect of making the film be alot more entertaining the what it is in the first place as right now the films kills are mostly really bad and yet by not showing us one of the kills in this film it does make the film be all the more worse with the rest of the films kills being just as good in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall as was to be expected by now this film is nothing more then a below average film that will be forgotten about within a weeks time as this films is one that had the potential to be a good film it just needed a better film making team to make it be as good as it perhaps could have been in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad tings that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 4 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of te images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from Tenor , Amazon . Co . Uk and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this film being Google Images simply because Google Images actually has images from this film really are up and on Google Images and plus pretty much much all of the images that I personally found on Google Images were all really very fairly high quality and as well as being as really very fairly high definition as well and so then horror fans we end this review as we always do with really our one and true goddess Elvira wishing us all some really very unpleasant dreams.
