Black Box 2020 Film Review

Horror fans it's been roughly a month since I last reviewed a new horror movie and well thank god Amazon has just started releasing a new series where every episode is a new horror movie because there are very little to no new films horror or otherwise coming out for the foreseeable future. I honestly have no idea what to think about this film since before me even writing this review I hadn't seen or even heard of the film that i'm about to review and so here is my review of the 2020 film called "Black Box" enjoy the review everyone.

The plot of the film six months after just surviving a car crash that killed his wife Nolan still suffers from memory lose and so he goes to see a specialist that puts him in a special program to help regain his memories but over the course of his treatment he'll find out something truly shocking. I honestly feel that the story of the film while it is pretty hard to figure what the actual plot is the story is fairly decent and is honestly really creative in my opinion.

Starring in the film is Mamoudou Athie as Nolan , Phylicia Rashad as Lilian and Amanda Christine as Ana. Also starring in the film is Tosin Morohunfola as Gary , Troy James as Backwards Man , Charmaine Bingwa as Miranda and Donald Watkins as Thomas. I have no idea if this is a complete cast list or not but this is the closest cast list that I could actually find and so I hope that it's the complete cast list.

The acting in this film I honestly feel is alot better then it really had any right to be since if any actor read what the concept for this film was then alot of the actors would be giving over the top performances. However here the actors are going the opposite route and are instead giving really solid performances that honestly not only work fr there character and it also helps that the child actress isn't annoying as all hell.

Now this movie premiered on Amazon in a really cool way because it premiered as the second episode of the new series Welcome To The Blumhouse. Which is a series made up of four feature films all of which are produced by Blumhouse Pictures and the series itself airs on Amazon Prime Video this to me is a great way to get these little known films out there since nobody would give alot of the films there releasing this way attention because there's nothing recognisable about this films and there's no big name attached to them.

Sadly these films aren't being released weekly I think there's releasing them every few weeks but it means that we are getting new content which right now is a good thing. I will admit that they could have done something with the concept behind the series like maybe they could have had a host for the series just something that would make the series a little bit more entertaining and as well as give us another reason to check the series out.

To me the film seemed rather slow paced and kind of boring which for any film is never a good thing since you want your audience to be entertained. Part of what makes the film boring to me is it's slow burning plot since the story is paper thin at best and so having a slow burning plot where for large portions of the film nothing is happening makes the film boring and because of that the pacing feels slow because there's nothing happening.

Another issue with the film which also ties back into what I was just saying about the film is the fact that's an hour and forty minuets long. This to me is a huge mistake because like I just said there's nothing happening for large portions of the film and the story is thin at best as such I honestly feel that this film should have been an hour long and even that's pushing it making the film an hour and forty minuets just means that the audience is going to sit there bored for a long time since they are waiting for anything of interest to happen.

This is the directorial debut for Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour Jr. who also co-wrote the film's screenplay with Stephen Herman. I honestly feel that there script needed tweaking because the idea is solid hell you can get a decent film out of the idea but where the film comes apart is with the script because there's alot of padding like the film makers are trying to get the film up to or in this case beyond a feature length running time.

Now then boys and girls since this is a horror film that does mean that we have to talk about the scares that are in the film. To me the scariest thing about this film is the idea because the idea for the film is truly creepy and that to me makes up for the fact that there aren't alot of actual scares but the actual scares in the film are pretty creepy and are only the most entertaining things in the entire film in my honest opinion.

Overall this film could be entertaining in parts but for me at least the overall majority of the film was pretty boring to watch. There are some good things that in this film but you have to get through alot of the bad stuff just to get a glimmer of how good this film could be and while I do feel that Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour Jr. has a future as a director regardless of the genre he also has alot of room to grow as both a writer and director as such this film gets a 4.5 out of 10 from this horror fan.

All of the images that I used in this review were gathered from either Wikipedia or Google Images and for once it really doesn't matter where you get images from the film from. I say that because even tho Wikipedia does have a high quality version of the film's poster which i've used in this review by the way that's the only image from the film that it has and Google Images has so little images from the film and the ones that it does have range from really high quality to medium quality at best but as always boys and girls we end this review as we always do with our true goddess Elvira wishing us all some very unpleasant dreams.

My First Impressions Of The Walking Dead: World Beyond

Fans of The Walking Dead TV series or comic book as you might recall a few days ago I took a look at the debut episodes to both Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead TV series. Well what you might not have known is that I was doing it for a reason and that's because I was planning on covering the debut episode of the new walking dead spin off TV series The Walking Dead: World Beyond and while I was very much planning on covering this early Monday morning like the main show this episode has been released early and so here are my first impressions of The Walking Dead: World Beyond enjoy everyone.

The plot of this episode which for those that don't know is called brave is sisters Iris and Hope Bennett find there world turned upside down when they find out that there scientist father might be danger and so the sisters and some allies are forced to step foot into the zombie filled world for the first time in there lives. In my opinion the plot for the episode is it's weakest aspect just because not only does it take a while for it to really get going but when it does get going the plot is so thin that it might as well not even be there.

Starring in this episode and thus the rest of the series is Aliyah Royale as Iris Bennett and Alexa Mansour as Hope Bennett. Also starring in this episode and thus the rest of the series is Hal Cumpston as Silas Plaskett , Nicolas Cantu as Elton Ortiz , Nico Tortorella as Felix Carlucci , Annet Mahendru as Huck , Julia Ormond as Elizabeth Kublek , Joe Holt as Leopold Bennett , Beth Leavel as Dr. K and Christina Marie Karis as Kari Bennett.

The acting is one of the episodes strongest aspects in my opinion which really isn't saying that much since the acting seen in this episode is the kind of acting you'd expect to see in a teen drama airing on The CW. In that the acting is pretty over the top at times which really doesn't work with the world that this show and franchise is set in but I will give the actors this they are at least trying to make the script work it's just a shame they really can't make the script work.

Timeline wise i'd say that this show is set either ten years after The Walking Dead's final season or it's set either during or after season ten of The Walking Dead. Which means that this series is basically a sequel series since we now at least ten years into the zombie apocalypse and as such it really is hard to pin point exactly when this show takes place however I will say that producing a show that follows the first group of kids to have been fully raised in the zombie apocalypse is a solid idea.

What isn't a solid idea however is not only making the episode available just a few days before it's due to air on TV but also making a pretty dull first episode. Your debut episode is your first chance to really impress people and to get them hooked but you can't really do that if your episode is really dull to watch which is sadly the case here luckily this show is lasting two seasons otherwise I could've seen this show not even lasting one season.

This series was due to start airing on April 12th 2020 airing just after the season 10 finale of The Walking Dead. However for some reason the premier was delayed and I honestly have no idea why since all the episodes were finished and so all they had to do was air them and yet for some reason AMC who are airing the show decided to delay airing the series until October 4th 2020 which to me makes no sense since there were alot more people at home back in April and so the show could have drawn some really huge numbers since it's not only new content but it's also a spin off to a still pretty popular TV show and comic book franchise.

Even tho this show is still classed a horror show I personally think that this is more of a YA (young adult) type of show. Since it looks like alot of those really bad young adult movies from the mid to late 2000's which to me makes the show look cheap and hell there's even alot of teen drama in this episode which adds nothing to thew overall episode but is there for reasons and that's really it and that's not good enough since the drama doesn't effect the episode nor does it effect the characters in anyway shape or form it's just there as a vain attempt to attract a younger audience which really isn't a good enough reason to have this kind of drama in your show in my opinion.

Out of all three Walking Dead pilots (Fear The Walking and The Walking Dead are the other two incase you didn't know) that i've seen this one is the shortest clocking in at fifty three minuets long. Which while it does make it easier to sit through it also means that alot of the episode plot points feel rushed because there now rushing to get the characters to were they want them to go before the end of the episode instead of taking there time in getting them there at a more naturel pace but that's just what I think anyways.

It also means that we don't get to spend that much time with the characters before the events of this episode really start to take effect. Since when the episode starts one of the characters has already put plans in motion to leave and see the world as such we don't get to feel anything for our characters by the end of the episode and this is something that could have been fixed if the episode was a little bit longer since then we could get to know what the characters are like and hopefully start to care about them but we are not really given the chance to do so.

I would very much like to talk about the scares in this episode however the episode chose to help me out and not include any. Which honestly i'm in two minds about since on the one hand it makes sense that the characters would be used to seeing zombies at this point and so they wouldn't be scared by them but on the other hand this is still a horror show and as such it is kind of expected that you at least try to scare people even if it's just a jump scare.

Overall I can't really say that this was a good first impression because it really wasn't but on the other hand i've seen worse debut episodes before. All of the problems that i've had with this episode i've talked about in this post and for a debut episode to get so many fundamental things wrong is not a good sign at all as such I cannot say if i'll be watching more of this series i'll most likely check out episode but from there who knows and i'm not giving this a rating since the show has only just premiered and I don't like to give ratings out for debut episodes and incase your wondering you can watch this episode right now on AMC+ which is AMC's premium on-demand service and all the episodes will be released on there three days before they air on MAC which if you ask me is a very bad move indeed but that's just what I think.

All of the images that I used in this review were gathered from either Google Images or the official The Walking Dead fandom wiki page. I actually cannot say which is the best website to use for images from either this show or this episode since there both pretty much the same when it comes to the quality of the image but if you want very high quality images from anything to do with The Walking Dead then I highly recommend that you use the official The Walking Dead fandom wiki page and as perusal horror fans we end this post as we always do with our true goddess Elvira wishing us all some very unpleasant dreams.

The Walking Dead TV Series "Days Gone By" Review

Fans of The Walking Dead if you recall yesterday I promised you that i'd cover the first episode of The Walking Dead and well i'm a man of my word. I will admit that I got into The Walking Dead TV series a little late into it's run like around season 6 or season 7 as such I never got the chance to see what the show was like when it was at it's best and so here is my review of the pilot episode of The Walking Dead Dead TV series not called pilot thank god but instead the episode is called "Days Gone By" enjoy the review everyone.

The plot of the episode is Sheriff's Deputy Rick Grimes wakes up in a hospital after being shot by a criminal only to discover not only his wife and son missing but that a zombie apocalypse has started. I will admit I fully enjoyed the story of this episode alot more then I did the story for the first episode of the prequel series Fear The Walking Dead mostly because here there was actually a strong story holding everything together where as with Fear The Walking Dead it felt like the story was only very freaking loosely connecting everything together.

Starring in this episode is Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes , Jon Bernthal as Shane Walsh and Sarah Wayne Callies as Lori Grimes. Also starring in the episode is Jeffrey DeMunn as Dale Horvath , Steven Yeun as Glenn Rhee , Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes , Jim Coleman as Lambert Kendal , Linds Edwards as Leon Basset , Keisha Tillis as Jenny Jones , Adrian Kali Turner as Duane Jones and Lennie James as Morgan Jones.

For those wondering yes Glenn does technically appear in this episode since his voice is heard at the end of the episode which is why I credited Steven Yeun as Glenn Rhee in this episode. As for what I thought about the acting in this episode it's alot better then the acting in recent seasons of The Walking Dead i'll give it that and that's because they have this thing called a good script for you see when the script is good and gives the actor alot to work with then there going to do there best work but if the script is bad like in recent season of The Walking Dead then the actor can only do so much to make the script work.

One of the bad things about this episode is that we don't get to spend much time with alot of the other survivors in fact excluding Rick we only get to spend time with three other survivors in the entire episode. Those survivors being Shane Morgan and Morgan's son Duane Jones which for an ensemble show is pretty bad since you have to make us love all of the characters and when you don't feature all f them in your debut episode then you make it pretty hard for us to love these characters and yes i'm not counting Lori or Carl since we only get one scene with them at the episode and other three we spend time with get more scenes and more screen time.

This wouldn't be an issue if the show was thirty to forty minuets long however the show is well over an hour long and so there's really no excuse. They very easily could have had scenes at the end of the episode with the group of survivors just working out what they should do and if they should go and help Rick this way you could get across what the group's current dynamic is like as well as get across what most if not all of the characters are currently like.

If you recall in my previous post I put across the theory that Fear The Walking Dead at least for it's first season was set during the time that Rick was in hospital. Well I still think that this is true simply because we don't know how long Rick was in hospital and by the end of episode we see then pretty much the entire city of Atlanta has been wiped out and is full of zombies and so there for it is possible that the events of at least the first if not first few seasons of Fear The Walking Dead could have taken place within that small amount of time.

Out of the two pilots that i've seen for this franchise this is the better paced one since I didn't find myself checking the internet while I was watching this episode. I honestly feel that every scene in this debut episode lasts just as long as it needs to and then moves on as such we get a better paced episode and one that flows better but at the same time the end scene with the group of survivors with Shane really isn't needed since it adds nothing to the plot of this episode and nothing is missed if that scene was t be removed.

The zombie makeup for this series has always been top notch and the same is also true for this episode which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone since Greg Nicotero a legendary makeup artist provides the zombie makeup effects for this show. I honestly cannot praise the makeup effects in this episode enough because they look so freaking good and alot of the zombies look so creative simply because for some of them you can actually see how they died when they were human which is something that you very rarely get to see in any piece of zombie media.

This episode is an hour and seven minuets long which makes it three minuets longer then the pilot episode for Fear The Walking Dead which clocked in at an hour and four minuets. So it amazes me that even tho this is the longer episode it actually the shorter of the two and that might be because there's stuff actually happening in this episode where as in the Fear the Walking Dead pilot nothing really happens until maybe the last twenty minuets but here there's alot of things happening and because of that you the audience never get bored.

Now I actually lost count of how many on screen kills not including zombies that we actually see in this episode I do know tho that it's not a high number. Which yeah is honestly to be expected since this is a zombie show and so the scare doesn't come from the kills but rather the situations that are characters find themselves in and the threat that one of them could die at any minuet and in that regard is pretty creepy but at the same time I would have loved to see some kills.

Overall out of both this pilot and the one for Fear The Walking Dead i'd say that this is the better one simply because it had a stronger story among other things. As i've listed in this review this isn't a perfect episode but it is a good example of what this show could be like when it's at it's best and honestly based of this episode I can very easily see why AMC chose to keep this show around as long as did hell the next spin off series is premiering in a few days and as you all know is called The Walking Dead World Beyond as for this episode tho it gets an 8 out of 10 from me.

All of the images tat I used in this review were gathered from either the official The Walking Dead fandom wiki page or Google Images. Since all of the main episode images I got were gathered from the official The Walking Dead fandom wiki page I have no choice but to recommend the official The Walking Dead fandom wiki page for high quality and high definition images from anything to do with The Walking Dead franchise and as always we end this review as we always do with our true goddess Elvira wishing us all some very unpleasant dreams.

Fear The Walking Dead "Pilot" Review

Comic book and horror fans i've been known to cover entire film series during these difficult times and well I thought that i;d tackle something a little different and that's take on two pilot episodes from The Walking Dead franchise. I will admit right now the only reason i'm doing this is because the new spin off series The Walking Dead: World Beyond starts on Sunday and that show looks pretty good and so here is my review of the debut episode of Fear The Walking Dead simply called "Pilot" and yes i'm covering these episodes in the order upon which they are set and not the order in which they were released and since Fear The Walking Dead is set before The Walking Dead i'm starting with that enjoy the review guys and girls.

The plot of the episode is after witnessing his friend kill someone junkie Nick has try to convince his mother and her boyfriend that something evil has started and that something will consume the entire human population. In all honesty the plot to the episode is alot better then what I made it out to be since the episode does a good job of telling it's story as well as setting up the zombie threat which for me at least is a good thing since this is a zombie show and so it makes sense that the actual zombies are treated like an actual threat and don't freaking sing and freaking dance *cough cough* Disney.

Starring in the episode is Kim Dickens as Madison Clark , Cliff Curtis as Travis Manawa and Frank Dillane as Nicholas Clark. Also starring in the episode is Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia Clark , Elizabeth Rodriguez as Elizabeth Ortiz , Lorenzo James Henrie as Christopher Manawa , Maestro Harrell as Matt Sale , Scott Lawrence as Art Costa , Keith Powers as Calvin Jasper , Lincoln A. Castellanos as Tobias , Lynn Chen as A Nurse and Leon Thomas III as Russell.

Acting wise I feel that the episode does fair a little bit better but not by much and I say that because while the script is good dialog wise it's not so good character wise. The script doesn't give these actors that much to work with when it comes to there characters which means that the actors can only do so much in order to make the script work and while the actors do indeed do a solid job they can't be as good as they can be because the script doesn't allow them to be that good at least that's what I think anyways.

As mentioned this series is a prequel to main show however instead of featuring any of the main characters from the main show this show instead has a whole new set of characters. Which to me is the whole point of a prequel because now you have no idea if these characters are going to make it out of the episode alive or not because there not featured in this case even mentioned in the main show and so there's suspense and tension now there.

As to where exactly this fits into the shows timeline i'd say that it takes place slightly before , during and after Rick's coma. Of course this show would see a huge time jump for either season four or season five as such now the show runs currently with the main show with the events of both shows happening at pretty much the same time which for me just isn't that interesting yes it does open the door for possible crossovers but it also means that we don't get to see these characters learn that much about how this new world works or even how to kill zombies but there's a very freaking huge chance that they do learn how to kill zombie but i've just forgotten all about it.

As I said this show features an entire new cast of characters and what people forget about this show is that for some reason at least for this first season these new characters were pretty much hated by alot of people. Which is something that I just don't get yes this episode writes them pretty horribly but that doesn't mean that the characters themselves are bad Maddison for example is a caring mother who is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her kids safe this is something that we would see alot of during the characters time on the show.

We would also see the character of Nick learn to get of the drugs and learn his family is far more important then taking drugs. I'm not going to say that these are the best characters on TV because quite frankly there not but you can't fully judge a character of just one episode since in the case of this show you have eight episodes to get to know them and for there characters to be developed plus I think we can all agree that Maddison is the best character in this show and also one of the hottest females in The Walking Dead franchise.

One of the things that I feel that this episode doesn't do that well is explore the family's dynamic which considering that one of the big selling points of this show was that it features a blended family as the main cast is really something that they should have worked on. In fact we only get one scene with Travis's other family and that's not enough even more so when you take into account that his ex and his other son become main players in this first season with the son becoming a big player in the show's second season.

While not having Travis's ex wife and son be main players in this episode might not seem like a big deal it does become a big deal when you take into account that the ex wife dies at the end of this first season and we the audience are expected to care about her character. That sadly cannot happen because we don't have enough time to get to know her as a character and so when she does die it feels like she was just another character and not a fully developed character.

Rather understandably there aren't that many deaths in this episode I think in total there's about three maybe four. That being said alot of the zombie related deaths were pretty tame since there just the typical death that you'd expect to see in anything to do with zombies which while it does make sense since this is meant to be the start of the zombie apocalypse but at the same time I do expect the deaths to be creative at least.

Overall this wasn't a bad debut episode and I can see why this show is still going on because even from this episode I can tell that the series had alot of potential. Even tho this was a solid episode there was alot of bad things that are present in the episode and those things for me at least are very fundamental in making the show live up to the high standard of The Walking Dead as such this episode gets a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

All of the images that I used in this review were gathered from either Google Images , the official Fear The Walking Dead fandom wiki page or the official The Walking Dead fandom wiki page. I have to say that even tho there was amore of a verity of images seen in the official Fear The Walking Dead fandom wiki page I have to recommend that you use the official The Walking Dead fandom wiki page just because they are more high quality images on there then there is on the official Fear The Walking Dead fandom wiki page and as always we end this review as we always do with our true goddess Elvira wishing us all some very unpleasant dreams.

My First Impressions Of Ratched

Horror fans I seem to making it a habit of covering either horror comedies or horror TV shows well we continue that trend with a new TV show. I will fully admit I know nothing about either the character that this show is being based on or the book and various adaptations in which she appears as such i'll be judging this episode as just that a TV episode and nothing more and so here are my first impressions of the new Netflix TV series "Ratched" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is Nurse Mildred Ratched seeks employment at Lucia State Hospital as it prepares to admit a new psychiatric patient notorious killer Edmund Tolleson. I admit the story wasn't as good as I thought it would be just based of the trailer I thought that the story would be a lot better and be told better and while the story is told rather well the actual plot I thought was rather weak at least for something that's over fifty five minuets long at least.

Starring in the episode is Sarah Paulson as Nurse Mildred Ratched and Finn Wittrock as Edmund Tolleson. Also starring in the episode is Cynthia Nixon as Gwendolyn Briggs , Jon Jon Briones as Dr. Richard Hanover , Charlie Carver as Huck Finnigan , Judy Davis as Nurse Betsy Bucket , Corey Stoll as Charles Wainwright , Vincent D’Onofrio as Governor George Milburn , Alice Englert as Dolly , Hunter Parrish as Father Andrews and Sharon Stone as Lenore Osgood.

The acting in the episode was honestly a lot better then what I thought it was going which is honestly a good thing because I had no idea what to expect from this show acting wise. Nor have I heard of alot of the main cast for this show and so to see that the episode was really well acted is for me a good sign since it says that the whole show could be very well acted as well plus how they got Sharon Stone to act in this is truly beyond me.

This show is based on the character Nurse Ratched who first appeared in the 1962 novel One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest as well as appearing in the film adaptation of the same name. I've not seen the film nor have I read the book but as far as I can tell this series is meant to be a prequel to the book which means that die hard fans should expect it to fall into the same trappings that all prequels that feature the same characters or cast fall into.

If your like me and you haven't read the book or seen the film version of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest then everything you see in this series will be new information for you. As such I really can't knock it for falling into those same trappings that all prequels that feature the same cast or characters fall into since I don't know anything about the book or film but I will be interested to know what die hard fans think of this new take on the character.

To me what was interesting about this episode is seeing how manipulative the main character can truly be when she wants something. This is something that we see all throughout the episode and it's something that honestly makes the episode and possibly even this series pretty scary because she's willing to do whatever she needs to do in order to get whatever she wants be it a job or even if she wants someone to believe she's a kind person there's always manipulation involved and that makes the character pretty scary if you ask me.

Honestly this episode can be pretty boring at times and alot of that does come down to the fact that there's very little story. Which is why I feel that this series shouldn't have episodes that come close to being an hour long if anything all the episodes in this series should be under thirty minuets just because I feel that's how much story they have but I could be wrong in future episodes they might have enough story to cover nearly an hour running time.

Without giving much away in terms of spoilers I have to say that for me at least the best scene in the entire episode is at the end of the episode. Just because we get to see how creepy and how demanding Nurse Ratched can be as well how in control she really is it also helps that the writing , acting and directing in that scene is so well done it's great example of everything coming together perfectly and forming a great scene.

This is a horror show and that does mean that there are some deaths to be seen in this episode and as to be expected from a TV show there aren't that many deaths. I think we only see less then a handful of deaths and there all basic deaths there's all either throat slits or stabbings which is fine but when that's the only kind of killing that we see in the episode it does get kind of boring and it makes you wish that there was more of a verity of deaths.

Overall this is a pretty decent first episode and i'm glad that it got a two season order when it first picked up by Netflix just because there's alot of story with this character. That being this episode is pretty boring at times and I can see people being put off this series just due to that fact alone and since this is only my first impressions of the show I won't be giving you a rating and all the images that I used in this review were gathered from the official Ratched fandom wiki page which I do highly recommend if you want to images from either this show or the episode just due to how high definition the images and as always we end this review as we always do with our true goddess Elvira wishing us al some very unpleasant dreams.

Friday The 13th: The Series "The Inheritance" Review

Horror fans alot of successful films have spawned TV shows it's oddly enough seems to be a right of passage for a horror film. Even more so for a slasher since for some strange reason TV executives seem to be obsessed with turning slasher films into TV shows and what alot of those shows have in common is they at least try to be like there respective film counterparts however there is one show which doesn't even try to be like the film series it's based off of and so here is my review of the debut episode of Friday The 13th: The Series with the episode being called "The Inheritance" enjoy the review guys and girls and everyone inbetween.

The plot of the episode is cousins Micki and Ryan inherit an antique shop from their late Uncle Lewis Vendredi and after selling one of the shops products they find everything in the shop is more deadly then they first fought and so have to try and get back the sold item in this case a doll before it's to late. Even tho I just gave a fairly detailed summery of the episode my summery is more story then what's featured in the actual episode since the actual story is so thin and it takes nearly twenty minuets to get going which is not a good thing at all.

Starring in the episode is John D. LeMay as Ryan Dallion , Louise Robey as Micki Foster and Chris Wiggins as Jack Marshak. Also starring in the episode is R.G. Armstrong as Lewis Vendredi , Sarah Polley as Mary , Lynne Cormack as Mrs. Irene Simms , Michael Fletcher as Mr. Simms , Esther Hockin as Babysitter , Sean Fagan as Boy #1 , Gordon Michael Woolvett as Boy #2 , Robyn Sheppard as Nurse and Barclay Hope as Boyd.

The acting in the episode even tho I say this alot I feel is true here but it was alot better then what I was expecting it to be. I went into this show expecting the acting to be really freaking bad if i'm being honest but to my surprise the acting was passable which for a show based of a movie is a very good thing , it helps that alot of the actors are at least putting in some effort into making the script and the idea work but they can only do so much tho.

Say whatever you will about the quality of Freddy's Nightmares at least that show is actually connected to the A Nightmare On Elm Street franchise even if it's just by having Robert Englund back as Freddy Krueger. This show literally has nothing to do with the Friday The 13th franchise hell even co-creator and Friday The 13th franchise producer Frank Mancuso, Jr. admitted that they only named the show Friday The 13th: The Series so it would be easier to sell the show to networks.

I get that you have to sell a show and I get that it could be hard selling a show and putting the name Friday the 13th in title would make it easier. However by doing that your going to make alot of fans of the Friday The 13th franchise both angry and confused angry because it doesn't feature any characters or settings that they are familiar with and confused because you don't make it clear if this is set in the same world as the films or not and so the fans will be watching just to see if there favourite character appears in any of the episodes.

In all honesty one of the good things about this episode hell about this series is the fact that they don't feature Jason's mask. I say this because there was a rumour going around that if the show did get a fourth season or even more time to film a final episode then they would have tried to connect the show to the movies through the way of using Jason's mask which on paper sounds cool but when you take into account that we see how Jason got his mask in Friday The 13th Part 3 it really makes no sense for the mask to appear in this show.

Perhaps the biggest issue that I have with the show is the fact that the story takes close to twenty minuets to get going. I say this because the episode is forty five minuets long (an hour with adverts / commercials) and so for a story to take that long to get going is not a good thing at all since it means that your now rushing to hit all of these plot points without taking the time to get us there at a more natural pace as such the episode has very uneven pacing with the first twenty minuets feeling pretty dull and going slow as heck but the final twenty five minuets going by super fast as such it leaves the episode feeling very uneven.

Now given that this show debuted on October 3rd 1987 and the original Child's Play movie was released on November 9th 1988 I feel that someone copied someone when it comes to the killer doll concept. Just because there are far to man similarities between Chucky and the doll that is featured in this episode I don't know who copied who but it's clear to me that someone copied someone and i'm hoping that i'm not the only one that feels like this.

Just to make things clear on what those similarities first is the fact that the kid is attached to the doll which while it doesn't mean that the concept was copied it does however lead into what else is to follow. Since both Child's Play and this episode have the kid and doll try and kill people only in this episode the kid knows what she's doing and the fact that there's something supernatural involved is enough to make me wonder who copied who.

Unlike the Friday The 13th films this series takes on a supernatural approach instead of being a slasher which from a budget point of view makes sense since it would cost alot to produce high quality make up effects. However at the same time the die hard fans of the Friday The 13th franchise would be expecting this show to be a slasher and so to against that would only upset the fans but all of that could avoided if they just changed the title of the show to it's original title which was The 13th Hour which to me is a more fitting title.

This show started airing on October 3rd 1987 with the final episode of the show airing on May 26th 1990 with the show lasting a good three seasons. This show actually didn't air on any network instead it went straight to syndication and so it aired on many channels / networks all at once which I honestly feel was a bad move for this show because the people who bought the show must have been expecting an actual Friday The 13th show and not something that is literally Friday the 13th in name only but who knows maybe the various networks knew what they were getting themselves into.

Overall this episode while it wasn't that bad it wasn't that good either it was a very mixed bag in almost every aspect. For everything that this gets right there are two or three things that it gets wrong which for your debut episode is not a good thing at all since it doesn't leave a good enough first impression on the viewers but the fact that this show lasted three seasons means that there must be some fans who like this show this episode tho gets a 5 out of 10 from me.

All of the images that I used in this review were gathered from either the official Friday The 13th fandom wiki page , the official A Nightmare On Elm Street fandom wiki page , the official Child's Play fandom wiki or Google Images. If we are talking strictly images from this show then I would recommend Google Images just because those images I found to be more high definition however if we are talking images in this review then I have to recommend the official Child's Play fandom wiki page just because the poster for the original Child's Play was nearly nine mega bites and as always we end this review as we always do with our one true goddess Elvira wishing us all some very unpleasant dreams.
