Resident Evil: Afterlife Review

Guys and girls we are now done with the good sequels and as I stated in my last review all of the sequels from Extinction onwards are just bad with each one being worse then the one that came before it. I'm now four films down in this epic marathon and my god I cannot wait for this series end because the films worse and worse now and that is never a fun thing to sit through but it is a fun thing to talk about as such here is my review of "Resident Evil: Afterlife" enjoy.

The plot of the film is Alice meets backup with Claire and together they fly to Los Angeles and while there they meet a new group of characters who join them in the fight against Umbrella. If you thought the lack of story in all of the other films was an issue then my god you've seen nothing yet because there is barely a story in this film with alot of the film feeling like stuff happening for no reason whatsoever and that's me being very freaking kind.

Returning from the previous are the only two reasons that anyone watched these sequels Milla Jovovich as Alice and Ali Larter as Claire Redfield and also returning is Spencer Locke as K-Mart. Joining them in this film is Wentworth Miller as Chris Redfield , Shawn Roberts as Albert Wesker , Boris Kodjoe as Luther West , Kim Coates as Bennett Sinclair , Sergio Peris-Mencheta as Angel Ortiz , Kacey Clarke as Crystal Waters and Mika Nakashima as J-Pop Girl.

I will give the film this the acting isn't that bad but in saying that it's not that good either all of the returning actors do an OK job but the acting falls apart with alot of the new cast. Since there acting just falls flat with the exception of Wentworth Miller who is at least trying but what let's both the returning and new actors down is the script which gives the new actors nothing to work with and changes the old ones so much that they might as well be new characters.

As you can no doubt work out this film introduces the game character of Chris Redfield to the movies but like alot of things in this film his introduction is very underwhelming. They have him kept in this cell and that's it Alice opens it up and boom he's there's no build up no nothing which for a character who I believe to be this important to the Resident Evil games universe (I haven't played any of the games) isn't really a good thing at all.

This version of the character has no personality to speak of whatsoever in fact the only thing we find out about the character is that he worked for the army and was locked in the cell be accident and that's it' Which for a character who is meant to be a main character in this movie or at least I assume he is but either way it's not a good thing since we don't have a reason to care about the character or a reason to want to see him survive to the end of the film which is something that we should always want in a zombie movie.

Now i'm convinced that the only reason that this film was made was so that we could get a shot of Alice and Claire in tight wet clothes. Not that that's a bad thing but since there's no other reason to make this movie other then to make more money it's pretty lame one since there's no more story left to tell hell the only bit of story that they had they tie up in the opening minuets of this one which was Alice going to Tokyo and so I have to wonder why the heck did they bother to make this movie if they didn't have any more story to tell.

Hell this film retcons the hell out of Extinction since in that film it was firmly established that the world had become one big desert and yet here in this film that isn't the case at all. On top of that Alice mentions how she and the others in Extinction thought that Arcadia was a village when they never even discussed that at all infact I don't think they said the name Arcadia in Extinction so why this film chose to retcon one of the better Resident Evil live action film sequels is truly freaking beyond me and is in my opinion a dumb move since Extinction was actually good.

One of the things that really made me laugh is that when Alice is having a flashback to the ending of Extinction and she's getting all of the survivors on a helicopter they add in a piece of very obvious dubbing where she just says K-Mart and that's it. Granted that one little thing clears up who she was talking to but it's done in such an obvious way that I couldn't help but laugh because of how obvious it was.

This is also the film that begins the tradition of using a recap at the start of the movies because anyone who didn't see the first three movies is clearly starting with this one. I don't know why they chose to add in the recap it's pointless since like I just said anyone whose seeing this movie has more then likely seen the other three but for some reason they chose to add it in which to me makes no sense whatsoever and they don't even add anything to it like no information for example or something that would be relevant to this film it's just there for the sake of being there which in my opinion isn't a good enough reason.

Now the third film knew that it was a dumb movie and because of that it allowed itself to have those more dumb moments. This film however takes itself far two seriously and yet it still has those dumb moments take for example the scene in the above picture it's dumb as hell and it's made even more dumb by the fact that this film takes itself far to seriously this film wants to have it's cake and eat it to and it can't do that.

At this point in the franchise it's more focused on the action aspect rather then the horror as such we are just going to talk about the action in the film rather then the horror because there's really no point in talking about the horror in the film. So yeah the action in the film while it can be entertaining as hell there are also times when the action goes on a little to long take for example the action scene at the jail that sequence even tho it's filled with cool moments and cool shots because of how long that sequence goes on for it's boring as hell.

Overall yeah this film is huge step down in quality from the previous three films and trust me guys and girls it's going to get worse from here. While there are some good things in this film as i've said there are just as many bad things in the film , the best word that I can use to describe this film is average because everything in the film is just average with nothing or no one trying to be better then that as such this film gets a 5.5 out of 10 from me and as always we end this review with our one true goddess Elvira wishing us all some very unpleasant dreams.

All images used in this review were gathered from either the official Resident Evil fandom wiki page or Google Images. In all honesty i'm shocked at how many high quality images I was able to find for this review as such I would say that if you want high quality images use either one of these websites if not well then insert something funny and painful here and hopefully that will be able to convince you to use any of these sites.

The Final Film Review

There are alot of horror films that sadly don't get alot of attention from either the mainstream audience or die hard horror fans alike....
