Resident Evil: Extinction Review

Three films down three to go guys and girls and from what I recall the good sequels end here so basically don't get used to see me being positive about these films. I knew going into this series that these films would push the boundaries of how much dumb I can take and while that boundary hasn't been breached yet this film came close to breaking it and so here is my review of the third live action Resident Evil film "Resident Evil: Extinction" enjoy guys and girls and yes from this point onwards all of the films will be watched and reviewed in the order that they came out.

The plot of the film is Alice is on her own after the second movie for some dumb reason and finds her self drawn to a group of survivors and now must help them fight of Umbrella who have just found out where Alice is and what she can do. The plot of this film is such a huge step down when compared to the first two films don't get me wrong it's fine but that's all it is it's nothing groundbreaking or new it's just Resident Evil in low budget version of Mad Max: The Road Warrior and that's all it is which is a shame because when this story wants to be good it can be good but it chooses to be just average at freaking best.

Returning for this film are of course franchise star and one of the reasons why everyone watched these movies Milla Jovovich as Alice , Oded Fehr as Carlos Oliveira , Iain Glen as Dr. Alexander Isaacs and Mike Epps as Lloyd Jefferson "L.J." Wade. Joining them is the other reason why people watch these sequels Ali Larter as Claire Redfield , singer Ashanti as Nurse Betty , Spencer Locke as K-Mart , Christopher Egan as Mikey , Matthew Marsden as Alex Slater , Madeline Carroll as The White Queen , Linden Ashby as Chase and Jason O'Mara as Albert Wesker.

Yeah sadly the acting just like the overall quality of the films start taking a nosedive with this film don't get me wrong there are some fine performances in the film. However there are alot more performances that just suck take for example Ashanti she's a fine singer but not a good actress since she delivers all of her lines with very little to no emotion and the same thing can also be said for the redneck mother at the start of the film who just has no emotion even when her sons are dying it's honestly laughable how bad the acting can be in this film.

Now I want in known that i'm a fan of these scene because of how cool it is and sometimes that's all you really want or need. However the fact that they chose to give Alice superpowers basically turning her into a superhero is really going to push anyone's suspension of disbelief and while they did give her these powers in the second movie they didn't really play them up to much and so it felt like there was still more to her character.

Here tho all of her character from the first two movies gets thrown out of the window because of how overpowered they make her which while it can lead to some pretty cool scenes take from example the sequence where the birds attack the convoy led by Claire and Alice saves them it's a cool sequence full of cool shots but given that the convoy had many people who can use a gun in there group what was the point in having Alice even be in that scene other then for her to show of her new powers , the Alice in the first two movies would have found another way to get everyone to safety but because this one has superpowers she just sets the birds of fire.

Now in my review of Resident Evil: Apocalypse I stated that all of the Resident Evil live action film sequels started with a recap of the first movie. That to my surprise isn't true since this film doesn't have a recap at the start of the movie or even in the movie which I honestly found pretty shocking and i'm glad that this movie didn't include because no one who hasn't seen the first movie is going to start with the third film.

For some reason this film chooses to make Carlos the love interest of Alice despite the fact that they weren't love interests in the second film and were more friends then lovers. These two are honestly more friends then they are lovers and so why the film chose to make them each others lover interest is truly beyond me plus it's something that doesn't have an effect on this film , the later films or Alice as a character it's just there for the sake of being there which isn't good enough.

Now then boys and girls since these are still horror films that does mean that I have to talk about the scares that are in the film. Which sadly is a huge let down for me simply because the film doesn't dare to be as scary as it could be this is a world overrun by zombies so in zombie attack there should hoards of them and yet at any one time there's only one or two attack a person which isn't as scary which is a shame because the makeup on the zombies looks really good.

The fact that the film doesn't take full advantage of this new world setting to me really hits it's peak during the Vegas sequence. Since it would be alot more scarier if our group of heroes were attacked by fifty or sixty zombies instead they only get attacked by a small handful which is as scary and that's a huge shame because a desert earth setting really does allow for more zombie attacks and more zombies during those attacks.

Now then boys and girls this is also an action film and so that means that we have to talk about the action that's in the film itself. Which like the previous two films I found to be one of the more enjoyable aspects of the simply because this film knows that it's dumb as all hell and because of that it allows itself to go balls to the wall crazy with the action sequences with the best action sequence in my opinion being the Vegas sequence just due to how insane it gets.

Overall this is the last of the good live action Resident Evil sequels or movies in general since each film gets worse and worse. That doesn't mean that this film is perfect because it's far from it but when you compare to the over sequels but this film can at least can at least be entertaining and it knows that it's a dumb film and just has fun with it as such the film gets a 6 out of 10 from me and as always we end this review with our goddess Elvira wishing us all some very unpleasant dreams.

The images for this film were gathered from either the Resident Evil fandom wiki page or Google Images. I really cannot stress enough how good these websites are when it comes to high definition images and i'm sorry but I really cannot think of something funny or entertaining to say about the traditional image source statement but in my defense I put alot of effort into those jokes which and effort is something that the makers of these films clearly no nothing about.
